Coach, I love reading your stories and thoughts, you are truly a great, inspirational man. I remember quite a bit of bad blood with Arizona back in the day and how after the Othic fiasco, the nickname "Midnight Lute" really took off.

A fun factoid. My daughter flew down to Arizona to see her mother for Christmas. I fly her into Tucson and she happened to fly out on the Southwest flight that the Arizona team was flying home on. My wife and daughter collected autographs from the team and then, when they were boarding, we hit them with the "Go REBELS" cheer.

Hopefully it will turn out to be minor, but it sure sounds like it could be another sports hernia to strike UNLV's high hopes.

I have to say that I bought into what Sanford was selling this year and attended all but one home game. It was maddening to me to see the lack of defense and defensive adjustments during games. The offense seemed to be able to adapt the passing game somewhat, but the running game was an absolute JOKE. We have the Tank with a few decent backups and gain less yards against one of the, if not the, worst run defense in the COUNTRY and gain less yards that we did against TCU on the ground. I know we had a ton of O-line injuries this year and injuries overall, but it was still an incredible disappointment. When our defense was beat up, we go to playing an ultra-soft scheme instead of an attacking scheme so two defenders in the secondary can watch mediocre receivers run past them. I could go on and all, but what I would like to see is more improvement and more consistent in game adjustment from the staff.

I love the coverage that the Sun gives to UNLV and the local scene in general. I've been in Las Vegas for over 29 years and it has been a long time coming. Please keep up the good work and keep us updated somewhat in the offseason.

I was at the game last night, there was a "buzz" around the stadium when I finally got in. 6pm is a horrible starting time when you have to cross town to get all the way out to Sam Boyd. I got off work a few minutes after 5pm and had to make the trek from Durango & US95. I only missed the first 7 minutes of the game, but very upset that I missed the Senior Day presentation. Good win by the team. Nice to see the defense making plays instead of reacting to getting beaten. Next up, San Diego State. . .

I totally agree with you there Lenny, he was an incredibly scrappy role player last year. If he tries to hard to assert himself, it might take away from his self-less play.
The season really seems to hold a lot of promise. Some of the more negative posters (or posers) seem to think that the basketball season is like the football season and you have no chance of winning the national title unless you are undefeated. Hopefully the guys will learn from their losses this year and be ready for the postseason. Lon has showed he is capable of adapting his players to augment their strengths. Just look at our size issues last year.

Great to hear that you are back on the air Coach. Will the show be available for download?

Lenny,
I agree that Bill was a great recruiter, but he never seemed to get the full potential out of the kids he had playing for him. I always thought that if Tark had Dalron for 4 years, he would have been a lottery pick.

I, for one, was quite surprised at the officials' lack of regard for player safety in the BYU game. There seemed to be little or no fear of being called for a roughing the passer or unnecessary roughness / illegal hit type personnel foul.

Being a 29 1/2 year Las Vegas Valley resident, I grew up cheering Tark and the Rebels on. When the lights would go out at the T&M, the Jaws theme started playing and fireworks started going off, it was magical. Before the powers that be took the decibel monitors down in the Mack, the crowd routinely topped 100 during player introductions. It was usually the beginning of a great effort from kids that nobody but Tark would give the time of day to. I still am a complete mark when it comes to Tark, I get giddy with the fond memories that he has provided over the years. When his son George coached the RoadRunners at the community college, I would go just to see Tark, Danny and the grandkids, they took over a small section of the bleachers and Tark always took time to interact with the fans. I am overjoyed to see that Coach is back where he belongs, around the court that FINALY bears his name. I think the community owes Charlie Spoonhour and Lon great thanks for rebuilding the bridge that Maxson almost completely burned down. I look forward to reading this blog and the Suns coverage of UNLV sports overall. Great, great thanks to whomever made the call to put some emphasis on this coverage.

Not only was the hit "childish", it was dangerous. We saw over the weekend two spinal cord contusions or fractures, was this "childishness" very far away from being another serious injury? This kind of garbage has no place in sports. Having been at this game and the last that Iowa State played here, I was appalled at the lack of discipline and overall sleaziness that ISU showed with their antics.
