How long does it take for Jim Rogers to know David Ashley's management style? Why cry foul after 3 years? And now Jim Rogers claimed that Bonnie was not married to David Ashley when Ashley was hired. Why does it matter? Jim Rogers' last attemp to make himself relevant, has failed miserably.
The previous report had indicated that the Ashleys flew coach, so no investigation into their flying first class needed. Make your comment relevant, by using the facts, not what's sensational, yet not true. It is UNLV Singapore's first commencemnet. I agree with Ashley, that there was no reason to cancel all the important appearance. Jim Rogers was PO'd that Ashley didn't cancel Ashley's trip because Jim Rogers threatened Ashley with wife issue. We applaud Ashley for being a big-picture person, instead of being the nitty-gritty narrow-minded ego-maniac Jim Rogers.
Regents should vote Ashley in. Do it after Rogers leave, of course. We don't want to hear his deafening shouting, and receive his phone calls and emails crying foul.
Rogers conflicts himself in the last paragraph, after he said he didn't mind if the decision is made in August after Rogers retires, "I think it's essential that you come to a conclusion quickly, but at the same time it has to be the right conclusion. I'm going to do everything I can do to get the issue resolved by July 1, and I believe it will be."
The SUN reports, "In preparation for the upcoming contract discussion, the board hired John Welty, president of California State University, Fresno, to evaluate Ashley's job performance.
To date, the public portion of that evaluation has been overwhelmingly favorable".
This would have been adequate for David Ashley's renewal. Remember Richard G. Carpenter's evaluation? Faculty who questioned Carpenter's ways was scolded by the evaluator, and only those who sang praises were allowed to finish their sentences. Such biased evaulation got Richard G. Carpenter's renewal, against the objection from the vast majority of the faculty and staff.
Now, for David Ashley's overwhelmingly favorable review, "Rogers has questioned the validity of the performance review". So David Ashley should be dismissed because Rogers doesn't like the evaluation result? Is there more performance review to be conducted to replace this one? Or we will just take Rogers' words for it? Why spent money to have the president of Cal State Fresno to conduct this evaluation review, and then dismiss it?
If the evaluation was bad, Rogers would have immediately embraced it. But now he found David Ashley overwhelmingly favorable, he thinks he only has to question the validity of the result, then he can still get what he wants - getting rid of someone whose performance is "overwhelmingly favorable".
Rogers is a misfit Chancellor in every way. Here he is again demonstrating his ignorance and arrogance. But we all know that about this Chancellor already. Step down! Rogers! If Regents have sometime to think about it until August, they would make a better decision. Better yet, a decisioin without your shadow over them. Good riddance! Jim Rogers.
Alden said. "Nobody's really happy with David right now."
I am not David Ashley's fan. But Mark Aldan, what do you mean by "nobody"? The world IS composed of more than you and Jim Rogers, I hope you understand that. Your talk is extremely condescending, disingenuous and manipulative.
Since this is a business trip (UNLV's Singapore campus graduation ceremony), I figure it's paid by NSHE. Has Mark Aldan, a Regent that approves budget, not approved Ashley's trip? Why now critize Ashley for taking the trip? Mark Aldan approved it for God's sake!
Mark Aldan is a hypocrite, and a henchman for Jim Rogers. Those NSHE soon-to-be hasbeens are doing everything they can to divert our attention away from the "fix was in" for the new NSHE Chancellor, Dan Klaich, who is a lawyer, like Jim Rogers, and has no knowledge with Higher Education, like Jim Rogers. Look where Jim Rogers's leadership took us?
Jim Rogers must answer questions about the knighting of Dan Klaich, instead of smearing Bonnie Ashley. We already know Jim Rogers, Richard Carpenter, and Mike Richards are threatened by strong women so please don't bother us with your own incapacity and fear. Answer the questions about the national search of a new Chancellor, or lack of. Tell us why.
Professor Rosenthal is absolutely correct. Jim Rogers is using smoke and mirror to direct people's attention away from his giving his personal possession of the Chancellorship to another lawyer, Dan Klaich.
It is Jim Rogers's personal possession, isn't it, the Chancellorship of NSHE?
Enough of the crap, Jim Rogers! You should know about bullyism. You found it unbearable Bonnie's way? More so because she was a woman? Reign her in??? Charity starts from home. How about straightening yourself up by STOPPING being a bully!
I found it difficult to fathom how jnance32 feels "You have to be careful about raising taxes---how much and when", yet whenever it comes to cutting state employees' salaries, he is the loudest cheerleader. Could it be that he is not a state employee? But does that have to make him to cheer for the disaster of "as long as it's not me"?
It is very sad to see how short sighted jnance32 is, and how cut-throat the like have become.
An analogy: For no reason at all, the Government decided to kill the pitbulls in the neighborhood. The jnance32s cheer because they never liked pitbulls. So they applaud the government's decision and bad mouth the pitbulls. Then it happened to bull dogs, doberman, golden retrivers, shi-tzu,...when it comes time that his chiwawa to be put down, he screams and cries that there was no justice, his chiwawa is absolutely harmless, adorable, not eating much,...Hey, the government's reason was really, "It's a type of dog." If it was applied to pitbull, it will eventually be applied to your dog, no matter how different you think your dog is from a pitbull.
Doesn't jnance32 see? Gibbons cuts the teachers' salary now, Gibbons will get to jnance32's money sometime. Jnance32 is very short-sighted to cheer for others' misery, while all people's fates are connected, and a crooked minded Governor is looking at you next.
Why is it across the board 6%, no matter you are making $40K as a CCSD teacher, or $141K as the Governor himself?
When it comes to paying taxes, there are so called "tiers". The higher your income, the higher percentage you pay. How come when it comes to salary cut, suddenly it's ONLY for state workers, and it's one rate? It's very convenient for the high pay Governor and his cronies, isn't it?
And those private sectors that need to be pampered - since those who already lost their jobs will not suffer any pay cut, then those who are making good income, should help in this bad economy, as much as the state workers, so why are they not included?
Dear Governor, it's called taxes, and unfortunately, when you said that you didn't raise our taxes, you lied. You raised K12 teachers' taxes. You raised K12 teachers' taxes so you can use the money to help the private industries. I moved from private industries, took a voluntary pay cut, to teach at K12. Now I am given the mission of saving private industries. Am I dreaming? Warren Buffet needs my help?
Higher Education was NOT cut 36%. NSHE has been very shady about their proposals. They PADDED their request big time so the cut will look really bad. But it's not as bad as 36% sounds. For example, instead of asking what you are needing, $1 million, you ask for $10 million, then when it was cut 90%, you get $1 million, no less than what you actually needed. Jim Rogers had openly admitted it before how NSHE must pad the request in order to get what they actually need.
On the other hand, CCSD teachers measly salaries were lumped into "personnel cost" which "must be reduced", as Gibbons put it.
Tell a parent that he/she must stop taking resources from the earth so his/her children can be fully clothed/fed/well cared for.
Tell a firefighter that he/she must stop taking resources from the earth so those who will call them to put out fires can preserve their lives and safety to the fullest extent.
Tell a teacher that he/she must stop taking resources from the earth so his/her students can learn effetively and whose potentials can be fully brought out.
After all, those are just PERSONNELS.
Gibbons is not a coward by cutting the hugely inflated Higher Education proposed budget by 36%. The percentage means NOTHING when it was so padded to begin with.
Gibbons is a coward by cutting K12 teachers' salary by 6%, after he stressed he would not leave Nevada children uneduated, and then lumped K12 teachers into some demeaned PERSONNELS.
Can Mike Richards save money from paying 3 people with the same job title, including the indicted VP Bob Gilbert, 6-digit salary, each? He can, but he is not doing it. He let repeated and redundant positions run rampant at CSN.
Can Mike Richards go out to raise fund for CSN? He can try. But no businesses like to deal with somoeone who double talk, is ignorant, and is outrageously over paid. Why would they want their money wasted like that?
As Mike Richards gave his own yes-men such as the disgraced ex faculty senate chair and whose wife, an underserved sabbatical leave, in such a budget crisis, for an estimated over $100k cost, Mike Richards does not hesitate to chase valuable employees away, from reputable senior administrators, to highly regarded teachers, to hard-working computer technicians. Together with Richard Carpenter, these two created history high record of EEOC complaints from CSN employees against CSN.
The best suggestion, and I can't take credit for saying it because it's being suggested over and over again, is that Mike Richards step down, as CSN desparately needs true and savvy leadership, way better than Mike Richards can ever offer. Ignorance and nastiness just don't amount to useful leadership, no matter how you slice it.
