too bad the union contract is forcing them to lay off the younger, lower paid, more technologically savvy workers. in awhile all that will be left to do the work are the overpaid, unmotivated old-timers who you always see just standing around doing nothing in the govt buildings.
unions served a real purpose years ago, but now they primarily serve to protect the lazy workers.
during the boom the strong working, motivated govt employees (yes, they existed! i was one of them, i swear) were mostly plucked out of the govt ranks by private companies offering higher pay, better retirement, and other benefits b/c of these employees understandings of the inter-workings of the bureaucracy. now most of those people are out of work (i thankfully am not), and most of the long-term employees in the govt are the ones who were passed over by the private sector headhunters during the boom years.
don't believe me?? go into any govt office and count the number of over 50 types standing around BSing and then count the number of under 40 types running around working.
btw, 2 way stop. cactus has the stop, maryland does not.
this is a horrible intersection and needs a light. cars FLY south and especially north on maryland, and people at cactus have to shoot across the very wide intersection.
the way maryland veers to the southwest makes it difficult for drivers crossing on cactus to judge the rate of speed of cars traveling north on maryland. cars that turn north onto maryland from st rose are already going fast and then they head downhill, continuing on at a (too) fast speed.
when i drove by this morning and saw this i assumed that a eastbound driver crossing cactus probably was t-boned by a northbound car driving faster then they realized--and i think i was right.
hopefully everyone is ok.
i do hate that intersection.
"""""....and two people, including the Angle supporter, were cited for disorderly conduct, he said.
Does that mean the other person cited was a Reid supporter? If so why is that not also in the headline??????"""""
I think the bigger question is why the RJ didn't even run a story about this incident?!?!
why can't this be posted in the opposite format with the most recent post being added at the bottom? its harder to read this way.
Kinda weird that Hard Rock is biting the hand that feeds them. Cocaine and Pop Stars--in no particular order--is what that place seems to be all about.
There is more coke done in the Hard Rock bathrooms then there is on the whole Strip. If the Hard Rock was going to bust everyone who is snortin in the stalls, they'd lose 3/4 of their customer base.
Hard Rock is the only place I've ever been where there is a longer wait to use the stalls then there is for the urinals.....
so wait...the drunks stumbling around Fremont Street looking for flutes of margaritas, $.99 shrimp cocktail and $2 blackjack are the same people they are trying to attract to development with condos, boutique hotels, a medical research center, and a sympathy orchestra hall? interesting.
I would be curious to know how many of the posters standing up for the firefighters are either firefighters themselves or their lifestyle is supported by a firefighter. It would be interesting to see
nice editing....

yes dkla, this really is a horrible situation. i am so very sorry for your being laid off, there are so many good workers out of a job these days.
i do want to point out, though, that there are still a lot of very talented, motivated, and hard working individuals in our local and state government offices that have been there for a long time. Some jurisdictions and offices are better than others, lets just put it that way.
