I remember earlier in the decade when a engineer friend of mine took a job at the County and was mocked by his professional friends for taking the steady, but lower, paycheck with the great benefits and retirement from the County over the higher paying, short term incentive-laden jobs from the fly-by-night development companies who no longer exist.

It was stupid in 2002 for people to opt for the long term security at the County, but those professional friends of my buddy sure aren't mocking him now.....

This month Rolling Stone magazine has a horrific article about murders committed by returning Iraqi soliders at Fort Carson in Colorado.

The lack of our government/military to understand and deal with the overwhelming mental health issues that arise from combat is astounding and disgusting--it pretty much amounts to, "take 3 of these horsepills and call me next week"

And god knows we all know somebody who went thru these same mental problems after Vietnam--so this ISN'T a new issue.

If this is how the government is treating our young heros, I can only imagine how they feel about the rest of us.....

Our_Linn,

I agree. It is a contribution, and its really on yourself to stand up to your word.

But.....you think that he didn't deduct that donation from his taxes already?

And LVPaco, is this development really good for downtown? As stated, if it is goes thru, the businesses HAVE TO BE geared towards tourist, not downtown residents.

I live downtown too, and I think this is a horrible idea. WE DON'T NEED IT, and it can't be supported.

Since it has to be geared towards tourists, it isn't going to be hip little bars and cool ethnic restaurants like us Downtowners like to utilize these days. Its probably going to be a PF Changs, an ABC Store, and TGIFridays.....

I agree this country is going through a radical change.

I want the first change to teach people the difference between "loose" and "lose".......

So if I am reading this correctly, the county building department ignored possible violations because they were "too busy" (whose quotes are those in the article? the authors or the county spokesperson. and if the author added them, why?) when times were good. Now times are bad, they are sitting around doing nothing, waiting for the economy to pick up, so to kill time and create some revenue they decide to do what they should have been doing in the first place and start handing out violations at a huge rate...

Interesting.

Seems like Ron Lynn and crew need to say at some point "the buck stops here" and stop trying at all costs to shift the blame onto someone (anyone..) for all these problems that keep popping up down there at the building department.

ahhh. nothing says the Las Vegas Sun online version like jfnance and ksand99 spamming the comment boards with their constant bickering on things they will never agree on.

Johnevegas and getalife probably feel left out.....

You know, I thought these boards get better when the election ended.

But the endless mindless bickering about minute things between the usual suspects really muddles this place up.

Maybe the Sun can create a chat room for jfnance32, johnevegas, thebs, fallonsouth and the rest of ya'll to reiterate the same talking points and call each other names based on their own respective partisan leanings...over and over and over again.
