I hope "escalate" never has a rash of bad luck that has him end up in a situation similar to the people featured in the article, but I'm sure Karma will find out a way to make him pay for his heartless lack of compassion.
Many of us are a job loss or a health crisis away from being homeless.
I've lived in both Reno and Las Vegas. I'll take the heat and crazyness of Las Vegas over the freezing winter weather and snobbishness of Reno. At least we can laugh at our many absurdities. Plus we have much better restaurants and shows, and much more affordable cost of living.
The only thing I miss about Reno is being 45 minutes away from Lake Tahoe and 4 hours from San Francisco.
Mr. Jeric must be one miserable man if something as insignificant as a 2-word phrase makes him so angry. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukkah, Seasons Greetings, Joyful Festivus... WHO CARES? Especially if, like he says, he's agnostic. Get a life. There are much more important things to get worked up about than a couple of words painted on a store window.
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, Happy Hannukkah to those who celebrate it, Happy December to the non-believers, and Happy New Year to all (we can still say that, right?)
The only TV show I'd like to watch those imbeciles on is Vegas Jailhouse.
The first (and last) time I went to Atlantic City some junkie got stabbed at their Caesars as we were walking through it. Not like that doesn't happen in Las Vegas, but I've never felt unsafe on the Strip or Downtown. Their buffet was also the worst I've had besides the Circus Circus in Reno.
I'll take the 108 with no humidity heat here over their 90's (or 100's like they had this summer) with 90% humidity there. They can cool off in their biohazardous ocean with the guidos, I'll enjoy the fresh mountain air at Mount Charleston when I need to escape the heat.
To those claiming that if someone there had had a gun this wouldn't have happened (from the Reno Gazette web site):
Ralph Swagler, owner of Locals Barbecue said he saw a man wearing a red shirt and long black pants pull up outside the IHOP in a blue minivan.
Swagler said the man had a rifle and opened fire.
"It's so meaningless," Swagler said. "He stepped out of the car and started shooting."
The man then walked into the IHOP and Swagler and his son, Ryan, heard a rapid burst of gunfire.
"I had my pistol, but I wasn't going to go up against an automatic rifle," Ralph Swagler said.
I'm not a fan of the death penalty, but in this case, hang the scumbag.
My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.
Rest in peace, little one.
"People think they're having fun here. But in fact they're wandering through a maze of really inauthentic, fake landscapes."
You mean that's not the REAL Eiffel Tower?
Judging Las Vegas by the Strip is akin to judging New York City by Times Square.
I'm surprised that these no doubt highly intelligent people could be so closed minded and uncurious about learning what our unique city is really about.
imvalfromcal, my condolences to you and your family.
Even if she'd had a cell phone, that area has very spotty service. It may not have helped.
