Bishop Gorman's athletic achievements are great, but I don't think it makes sense for them to play in the public school league. Public schools are limited by their zones, and Bishop Gorman is not. I know a number of high school athletes who attend (or did attend) Bishop Gorman because of their athletic teams, and not because they would have considered a Catholic or a private school otherwise. And when they needed it, they got financial aid. There's nothing wrong with this, except that public schools and their athletes should not be denied their shots at individual or team championships. All these kids get one shot at high school.
Gibbons wanted to BE governor; he just didn't want to DO governor. Whether you agree or disagree with his politics, it is unacceptable that he ran for and took a job he had no intention of doing. Governing is hard work, and we need a hard worker in the job.
It is the anti-tax extremists who want a free ride. They want roads, schools, fire service, police protection, and legal systems without paying for them. They want to live in a great country, but deride the basic protections and services that country and its constitution provide. Their rants on these comment pages are hate-filled and idiotic. Adults pay their bills, and they don't spend their lives screaming about doing it. They pay the grocer, the doctor, the mechanic, and the government. It just goes with the territory, and from the view of most of the world, it's damn nice territory.
Connie Gilmore - Florence Jameson and this program are great. I hope you will reconsider your opposition. Respectfully, Laura McBride

I hope that this article is incorrect, or that these parents will reconsider. "The Laramie Project" tells the tragic story of a young man who was brutally murdered because he was gay. The movie "Rent" features gay characters in the early years of the AIDS epidemic. These are real historical events that high school students have every right to learn about and consider. Moreover, no public high school student, whatever his personal values or those of his family, is ignorant of the existence of gay students around him. Have these parents considered the impact of their act on students who are gay, and trying to get by in high school cultures which are either ignorant, indifferent, or hostile to them? Ethical people do not attack others in weaker positions, and this lawsuit is a discredit to these families.
