I don't think there was any mention of "free" healthcare in anything that has been written so far. I think most of us want healthcare that is affordable. The healthcare costs for our company were raised by 30% every year for the first five years. What we paid $900/month for at the beginning of our business was costing $2500/mo within 5 years. The CEO of that company was paid $101 million last year. The health insurance companies are in much the same position as the oil rich nations in the middle east. They can bring this economy to its knees and will not hesitate to do so in the name of profits. Nobody should be unaware of this fact after the economic meltdown that we just suffered in the name of economic profits. (CDO investments, anyone?).
Death due to lack of health care is fairly common in the U.S. right now. You might want to go read some of the reports. There are plenty to be found.
The person I knew that died was Pete Peterson, he designed golf courses for a living and was self-employed. He was told he had a heart problem but did not have health insurance, and with the downturn in the economy he didn't have the money. He died on the golf course of a heart attack.
On the march on Fremont Street we had a wide variety of marchers. We had several older people pushing walkers and motorized chairs. Many of the marchers were people who had lost homes and had their stories on placards. It was an exceptional mix of people who've suffered because of the crash of the economy. There are several tapes of the people online that can be viewed. Barbara E Miner
There is an old saying, "People get the government they deserve."
I cannot believe the voters in this state threw over Dina Titus for this idiot. Par for the course.
I don't think that Hillary is perfect. She does however, have the experience of living in the White House for 8 years and will be taking her husband with her back to the White House. If you think that she had no input during those 8 years and that he will have no input during her tenure then you are not married.
The Starr investigation spent $80 million (of our tax dollars) investigating Hillary during Whitewater and found NOTHING! nada....if he could have found it you better believe that he would have.
Hillary was the only one who was strong enough to take on the Republicans on health care. They always talk about her failed attempt but WHY did it fail? Because the Republicans ensured that it failed. They kept saying "We have our own plan." So here we are ... fourteen years later ... nothing has changed about health care. They've had full control of the White House and Congress for six years and did NOTHING.
I like Obama and Edwards but I am voting for that two for one experience team this time. I did not vote for her husband at either opportunity but he sure left our country in better shape than any recent Republican administrations have done.

And I wouldn't compare Nevada school grades with any other state if I wanted to win the argument. Nevada has practised an almost Libertarian view of government since I've been here (almost 25 years) and California practised the most liberal government of any other state. Guess which two states were on the bottom when everything came crashing down. You'd think, since we had such low taxes and practised such a conservative form of government for so many years we would have been on the top of all the lists. But it didn't quite work out that way. (Schools, housing, jobs...you name it...we were at the top of every bad list and the bottom of every good list.)
