Just another fool who doesn't get Vegas. Some people actually think that New York New York and Luxor are trying to copy the real thing! lol They're casino themes, works of art. They're not trying to be like other cities (well maybe the Venetian is). They're just being Vegas, and unlike many cities, Vegas doesn't pretend to be anywhere else. Vegas plays by its own rules and doesn't have to conform to a so called "architecture critics" approval. And to say the Strip doesn't have a sense of place is just stupid, it's one of the most unique places on earth.

I think once the glass is on that Ryugyong hotel it will look pretty awesome.

The day this pipeline breaks ground will be the saddest day in the history of Nevada. We cannot risk any kind of Owens Valley environmental disaster. I love Las Vegas, but why does it seem no one here cares about anything but money? Why are we still building unsustainable sprawl? We need to stand up to the politicians and the developers. If we have to slow growth until the drought ends, let's do it. If they keep approving unsustainable developments, vote them out!

Las Vegans let your voices be heard! We must protect our beautiful state. If we do nothing then we deserve to be called the wasteland that the country thinks we are.

The only good solution is to pay to build desalination plants in California and trade them for Colorado River water. Then we can use the water in our own river and not have to steal it from someone else. They are already building desalination plants in California. It can be done! How many desalination plants can we build for $3.5 billion? Have they even discussed this will California?

Las Vegas is NOT responsible for the low level of Lake Mead. Not even close. Doesn't anyone realize where Southern California gets their water from? Los Angeles and San Diego get 40% from the Colorado River. The Imperial Valley uses 10 times more water than Las Vegas! Now that is wasteful!

It's not surprising you people don't understand this, seeing as most Californians have no idea either. So continue to blame Vegas, as Californians water their sidewalks with our precious water as if it comes straight out of the ocean (which it should). Ignorance is bliss.

It amazes me how many people in California don't even know where they get their water from. They water the sidewalks when it's raining and act like it flows endlessly from the ocean. And there is no end in sight to the sprawl they keep building.

Which is more sustainable, the city that gets it's water from 20 miles away, or the city that gets it from 200 miles away? Well in this case it's the later because they got to it first.

California will have to build desal plants to sustain future growth. If we ever manage to reduce California's dependence on the Colorado River, the river will provide Las Vegas with all the water it needs.

It seems to me that reducing California's dependence on the Colorado River should be one of our top priorities.

Los Angeles and San Diego get 40% of their water from the Colorado.

The Imperial Valley uses 10 times as much water as Las Vegas does, also from the Colorado.

So Cal knows if they want to keep growing they have no choice but to build desal plants. San Diego County is already building one in Carlsbad.

California uses the vast majority of Colorado River Water. If they got their water from the Ocean, a limitless supply of water, Las Vegas would actually be able to sustain itself for as long as the river keeps flowing. Someone (who isn't biased) needs to do a study on how much a desal plant would cost and how much water it will produce vs. the proposed pipeline.
