To Ron Kantowski and "The Las Vegas Sun":

Be aware: UNLV's English Department is one of the highly praised "pockets of excellence" at our university. We have earned a top-ranked, national reputation -- with three Guggenheim Fellows and a MacArthur Fellow on our faculty, and both M.F.A. and Ph.D. in Creative Writing programs that are ranked among the top five in the nation. We do have funding, though we're now suffering through the same dire and damaging cuts afflicting education all over our state.

Please give yourself the news -- we're in the Major League, Ron! Let's hope we can convince our Governor and Legislature to fund our NSHE system enough to keep us there!
