Sounds like msschaffer assumes all elderly folks go to bed early and that it's some sort of a crime to have a gun handy. Yeah, you can ask all the questions you want but the fact is a man tried to break into a home and that resident had every right to protect himself. Period.
As a so-called liberal, I take gun control very seriously. I hit what I aim at.
I am relieved to know the homeowner was unhurt and I pray that he will not have nightmares/PTSD for the rest of his life because of what happened.
To me, "roots" mean affordable dining, gaming and entertainment options, coin drop slots and their noise, slots along the wall leading to the buffet, and personable service.
Today we have computerized gaming programmed by bean counters wanting to rake in every single penny in order to pay off the casino operators' billions of debt dollars spent to build mega-priced resorts to cater to to the ultra-rich.
Now, they're paying for their follies and expect the rest of us to foot their bill.
Quitting a job in a down economy to look for other opportunities that one doesn't know if they exist? Uh, do you think me stupid, Jack? More like NV Energy cut you loose because company execs aren't sure which flag you're sailing under - theirs or your own.
If Jack and Nina are keeping house together, it's no wonder Nina's hanging on to her job. Someone's got to pay the mortgage...
Anyone here in this country illegally - from ANYWHERE in the world - should be deported. It's a tough call when they're violent criminals held in our prison system because they'll just come back and do it again.
Gunowners4Obama: you're treading on sacred soil when you say people shouldn't have kids if they can't afford them. You're going get shouted down and insulted for it.
However, I wholeheartedly agree with you and even take it a step further - too many parents AREN'T CAPABLE of being parents. They let the kids do whatever they want with excuses like "I can't control them" or "They should be free to express themselves" or "If I try to discipline them, they call the cops on me." I have more compassion for the man who slapped that noisy kid in a Wal-mart because parents are letting their kids act like wild animals everywhere - from banks to stores to restaurants to neighborhoods.
Our health care system has progressed to the point that only the affluent and lucky can afford it. The rest of us? SUFFER!
Goingbust: are you trying to be funny when you say dolphins are "just fishes" - hope so, otherwise you're showing your ignorance.
Dolphins don't bring visitors to Vegas - looser slots and more affordable rooms, meals and entertainment does. Too bad MGM/Mirage and the rest of the industry doesn't realize that.
Katie, I agree with you - the government SHOULDN'T be our caretaker/overseer in every aspect of our lives. You know, the man could have had a cell phone but couldn't get a signal.
Mred, please don't believe every John Wayne film - or any other movie. Still, lots of gold seekers died on the way to Alaska - with and without provisions - because they simply didn't know how to deal with the weather and elements.
Just when I thought Nevada politicians couldn't sink any lower (think Goober the Governor), Ensign steps up to truly put the state to new lows. Scum.
What I'd REALLY like to know is this: What politician DOESN'T think with a lower body part, ISN'T beholden to some fat cat with deep pockets, and WHO ACTUALLY CARES about the state of Nevada and the nation.
Oh yeah, I'm living in my own fantasyland to want such an elected official.
Thank God there wasn't anyone on the bike trail. It's really a busy place on the weekends. Nice to hear a upbeat story and glad everyone's okay.

Hope the Cracked Tea Pots cause the Republicans to lose in November. Too bad the core concepts of smaller government and adherence to the Constitution are wrapped up in extremism, hate and sheer wacko mentality. American politics continues its downward spiral...
