Cosmopolitan has experienced a rocky road...long before the anticipated actual opening. The truth is with all that accumulated investment logged for too many years behind it's development and completion, it had no choice but to open. They have to literally roll the dice and unlock the doors, despite all the red flags. There's a lot of dollars to recoup...even if they just trickle in slowly. I wish them well..

Southwest simply does a good job running an airline. A big part of that is they often offer the lowest fares to customers, particularly to Vegas. That no baggage fee thing they still offer is yet another cost - cutting item that most other airlines gig their customers for. You add it all up, it's no wonder they're the best option to Vegas and a lot of other destinations, primarily because the total cost for average fares and flights is generally least expensive for customers.

There's as much scientific evidence against global warming as there is supporting it...it's just that the latter has been generally more visible through the media since the deep arguments began. It's foolish to think that there hasn't been an increase in the amount of man-made greenhouse gasses during the past century. However, the researchers in England..those Climategate guys that were outted through their own inter-office emails a short while back...have been accused of falsifying data. Since that news broke about the English scientists whose purported research results gave him a huge money bus to ride on , where has Al Gore been ( besides getting a massage)? And, where has the Obama Administration public statements about global warming disappeared to since that news broke as well? Let's face some realities about this topic...in a very significant way it has been motivated by the attraction for money and fund raising by it's proponents. So, why wouldn't the English researchers send out bad data? There are some " atmospheric physicists" and other scientifically educated people and groups who don't buy into the global warming theory. There's also some folks who just get by on common sense who don't get it either. There's "ignorance" and "Inconvenient Truths" on both sides of this thing, like most any topic inferring Armageddon normally would.

Anyone even remotely familiar with and honest about the current Vegas housing market would all reply " Do what?..building boom?..here?..now? " in response to the Times article. They must be sniffing the ink ..or something..at the Times. Or there is some ulterior motive of which we're unaware...

Prices on this deal increased within a few days of the initial announcement. It's $34.99 for Total Rewards members and $39.99 for the general public now.

Total Rewards (TR) is just an OK comp program in my opinion ; in Vegas, MGM Mirage's Players Club has been much more player friendly, in my experience. It's true that $25+ minimums are required by MGM MIrage (usually) to get rated for comps. It's a good marketing ploy for TR to add these non- gambling extras to it's program..ultimately, they'll make more money but not from me. I go to Vegas to gamble, and MGM Mirage has been much more productive for me. Relatively, it's more beneficial than TR in terms of straight gambling comps. If my wife went to spas, shopped a lot, and involved herself in other nongaming activities, I might have an alternate opinion of TR. Blackjack players GENERALLY can also find better games (player-favorable rules) at the MGM Mirage properties vs Harrah's. And no, I'm not employed by MGM Mirage.

If you analyze Ruffin's position within the current economic situation in Vegas and then include his past historical penchant for wise business moves, you have to consider that this guy knows what he's cookin. How many other Vegas casino owners have managed to continue operations under such a light debt load ? You can state that he came in at a good time with the TI acquisition because of MGM's need for cash, but he got it done. He generated a ton of profit from the New Frontier deal and now he's responding to reduced Vegas visitation and spending by attempting to cater to the common man. This is just one of those guys who seems to be able to always be in an enviable, right place at the right time position. He has a great eye, obviously.

Virtually ALL of Southwest's competitors have added real dollar increases to consumer total flight( or segment) costs in one form or another. The most visible of these is the dreaded checked baggage fee implementations and increases. Southwest has avoided these specific increases and it has actually been a marketing and promotional tool for them to avoid hiked baggage fees (1st and 2nd checked bags are still free). This new "earlier boarding position" fee is the only new fee that Southwest has implemented recently, and be aware that it is indeed an "optional" fee increase for those customers who would choose to board the bus a little earlier. None of us can be receptive to any kind of airline fee increase or reduced service factors these days, particularly in view of the current general economic state. We're already ticked off and can't stand any more price hikes or service reductions from anyone or any entity. However, I challenge Southwest customers to do a tad bit of research and access a current and updated "airline fee chart"(hell, Google it) that includes some of these recent domestic airline fee increases already enacted. Subsequently, check out some of the fees that airlines are considering for near - future enactment. Then, come back and report on how Southwest relatively compares to other domestic airlines in terms of true total flight costs (to most destinations). I'm predicting that honest appraisals will reveal that Southwest compares
favorably with other domestic airlines in terms of lowest AVERAGE total flight costs to most destinations including Vegas..and that's the bottom line along with reasonable service for most of us.

One would think this perceived intellectual from academia would be intellectually curious to visit Las Vegas...there's more socioeconomic groups here than any other single destination known to mankind. Seems to me it would provide a vast research base for Miss Zukin to ply her self -righteous area of expertise.
