This will never happen in Nevada. Many students work part-time jobs (at night) and employers won't fire any student who is not passing his/her classes. Nevada legislators will see this proposal as punitive to "our little darlings," and as such will not want to cause these children to suffer under unjust laws. So in a word --- IT WON'T COME TO PASS.
Walt will probably leave when his term his up, but I bet he will receive a consultant fee of $15K a month for 24 months and a hefty pension from the state. His retirement is based on his last three years of employment with CCSD, and the consultant fee is just plain "gravy." You see he's quite a wiz when it comes to money, power, and education.... N O T !!!!!
If and when Rulffes leaves CCSD, he will be drawing not only a hefty pension from the State of Nevada, but I am sure the Grandmas on the School Board will want to keep him in the loop as a paid consultant at the tune of $15K a month for 24 months. Why? Well, he such a wiz at education! [Wait for the other shoe to drop.]
"It seems like there should be some minimal requirements to run for the school board."
Yes there seems to be a minimum education requirement: a high school diploma. Chris Garvey and Deanna Wright have high school diplomas.... wait maybe they have GED's.... Who knows. These two morons have shown their total lack of ability on the school board.... and "The School Board -- seven members elected from geographic regions -- controls an operating budget of $2.1 billion, sets policy for the nation's fifth-largest district and hires the superintendent." This to me is something that should not happen, but in the Silver State this is business as usual. Vote these --- and all the morons --- out of office.

Teachers have to sign an agreement dealing with the test. If the teacher commits an infraction, the teacher is summarily released from his/her contract. I guess principals (in this case a "principal without principles") is rewarded with another administrative position. You have to see this as a case of a double standard. A teacher would be terminated; an administrator is re-assigned to another administrative position.
The CCSD Board of Trustees should be investigated as complicit in this action. I really pity Lawrence MS. They are getting a cheater as a principal. I would almost bet CCSD will also reward her as Administrator of the Year in 2011.
