Congrats to a great kid. I was impressed with him when he appeared as the after game speaker in the Wranglers room over the weekend. I hope he continues to do well - perhaps he's the Wranglers 'feel good' story of the year, and if he continues to play well he may be our unsung hero of the year. Keep playing well Jimmy!!
The AHL rumors have been around for some time. In 2005 or 2006 when they first surfaced, it made sense. Edmonton had the AHL team in Edmonton (nice), and the housing bubble hadn't busted on the west coast. Edmonton has activitated their dormant AHL franchise for next season and will placing it in Oklahoma City. Albany is moving to Charlotte. The only AHL franchises I'm aware of that are in trouble - Lowell, and perhaps Springfield (where Edmonton currently houses their players) might fold or perhaps be located somewhere where the travel costs make it viable. I can't see them moving west with so few teams and the cost of travel in a tight economy. Maybe someday it might make sense, but not now. And when it might make sense, Abbortsford will be long gone.
LPN4LIFE: Perhaps we can sign some college kids since their season will be winding down soon. I believe thats how we got Miller back in 2008, and last year we had some solid signings that put some life into a pretty average squad. Let's hope we can do the same for 2010 - these college kids may not have pro experience but at least they'll bring some passion that at times is sadly lacking.
Johnstown? The Winnipeg of the ECHL. Ouch!
