You know, everyone says what a great guy sanford was (is) and how friendly he is but no one has ever stated that he was a great head coach. From the beginning of his ternure at UNLV, he made promises which he was unable to realize. I am not glad to see anyone lose their job in today's economy but he will surely land on his feet somewhere and, hopefully, be placed in a position where he can concentrate on something other than the entire game plan. He was not, and probably will never be, a head coach; I just wished he had been a responsible person and admitted that in year 3.
So, now the search begins and I hope that we can attract a coach which will have pride in the colors and take us to a bowl. The sad thing is we had the players this year to compete and win but we didn't have the coach which could take them to the next level.
Maybe, just like Runnin' Rebel basketball did with Kruger, we will get a coach that has a tradition of winning, instill that attitude into the team and start winning.
A good head coach has to be able to motivate and make the players believe that they can beat, conquer or destroy every opponent. Sanford didn't know how to make a motivational speech (did you ever watch the segments right before the start of gametime...comical), could not motivate his team and may never develop that skill.
Good luck to him and godspeed...

Must win game?? That has been every game since the loss to a first year head coached, true freshman ran Wyo team. Sanford just can't get it together and he should return to LV to just pack his bags if he coaches the team to another defeat!

Sanford again is showing his ignorance. If Clayton is 1 and Clausen is 1A then why wouldn't he start the healthy qb? I guess he knows that his days are numbered and he is going to stay with the one who brought him to the dance although the dance has turned into a nightmare.
FIRE SANFORD!! And give the athletes a chance for success; beginning next year!

Why is sanford still on the payroll? Didn't the president say that he was going to be closely watching...didn't he see the debacle which was the byu game?!
FIRE SANFORD! He is not a head coach. He may be one of the brightest OC in the nation, who knows; but he is not a head coach.
Let's start next year right now by firing sanford, placing one of his assistants as an interim and start the search. Enough is enough. We have the athletes to compete and win but not the coaching to move them to the next level...time to move on! Sad thing about it is Rocky Long could be here running the defense and I'd beat donuts to dollars that teams would not be compiling over 500 yards of offense per game. Sanford is a clown so get him a job at Circus-Circus; he no longer should be running the UNLV footballl program.

I have continued to be a sanford supportor but it seems to me that he is just not a head coach. Some of us are leaders and some are followers; he needs to be led! I am tired of having so much potential and seeing it all wasted because of poor coaching decisions. I honestly thought that the team had grown past these issues but they keep coming up. Again, to go for the tie instead of putting the ball in the hands of your most consistent part of your game (the offense) is inexcusable.
It's true, if we get by unr, all will be forgotten about the wyo game but what's the likelyhood of that. That midget ault always has his team ready to play UNLV and he truly outcoaches sanford every meeting.
I heard that Locksley (unm coach) went all Oakland Raiders on one of his assistant coaches...maybe sanford should try that with therrell to get him off the stick; I still say we should have got Rocky Long...another missed opportunity.
Anyway, let's go Rebels and beat the team from up north! I would really hate to join the "fire sanford" threads!

It is very true that Deante did step up, be a man and didn't blame the officials BUT it was a terrible call. We did have an opportunity to still win the game but games should never be decided by referees and that call took a lot out of the Rebels.
Yes, I think we should be 2-0 but we are 1-1 and the Hawaii game should be very telling about the character of this Mike Sanford-led team.
I know the Hawaii fans will be out in numbers and I just hope the Rebel fans will be there for this very much improved team.
We will go bowling this year for he first time in many years so come out and support this winner!

The hornets pretty much gave up on their passing game after the first series. Although the defense looked pretty good and had a clean sheet, I wish that we would have been able to see a little more of the pass defense. I feel like we were very stout in the middle but Daily exploided the edges a few times, we had better tighten that up for the beavers.
All and all, I was very happy with the result, especially with the efficiency of the offense and special teams.
GO REBELS and pound some beavers next week!

The Rebels are on the rise! I am expecting great things from this team this year especially with everyone healthy and ready to play.
Starr, Ronnie, Jason, Malo, Isaako, Martin and crew--name a better group of starters in the MWC.
Let the winning begin and continue! I hope Sanford turns the boys loose on Sac State and allows them to make a great statement for all to see and fear!
GO REBELS!

As for ukgreg90 to state that racial issues were and are not part of the history of kentukneck sports is foolish. The sec is full of such history; I'm not saying whether it was good or bad, just that it is history. Accept it and move on!
Kick some wildcat butt tonight Rebs!

I agree with you, true rebel fan. ceeph is just a misplaced hillbilly who doesn't realize that the chair of the NIT committee was just looking out for his "boys"; otherwise the game would be played at the T&M tonight.
I just hope the Rebels show up and put gillespie and his team to rest for the season!
