Rebels handle their business in 11-point victory vs. overmatched Air Force
Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015
A glance at the Mountain West standings has to induce at least a cringe for anyone with a UNLV rooting interest, because as the league logjams at the midway point, the Rebels’ past sins keep them on the outside looking in ...

Rebels’ freshmen looking for first 3-game conference winning streak
Friday, Jan. 30, 2015
The Rebels made it to 2015 without a losing streak, but once the calendar flipped it took more than three weeks for the return of a winning streak. Both games went down to the wire but UNLV has won two straight, and Saturday it will look to bump that to three in a row against struggling Air Force.

Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015
For a team that’s lost five conference games that all came down to the final possessions, UNLV doesn’t lack confidence at the end of close games.

Bern’s-Eye View: Forecasting Mountain West Basketball Week 12
Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015
The only Mountain West team that’s ranked in any poll — Colorado State is No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll — is an underdog tonight, if that gives you any idea about the balance of this league.

Blog: UNLV capitalizes on mistake, fights its way to 79-77 win against Utah State
Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015
David Collette scored 24 points on 12-of-16 shooting, but the only thing the Utah State freshman will be able to think about is his bizarre foul that handed UNLV a lifeline and the 79-77 overtime victory tonight at the Mack.

Rebels sink even further with latest loss, dropping to 1-5 in league play
New Mexico's Hugh Greenwood dominates in the Thomas & Mack Center, leading Lobos to 71-69 victory. UNLV has lost three in a row and six out of seven
Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015
It was a tweet that motivated New Mexico’s Hugh Greenwood to another level, but it was lack of execution that really cost UNLV another close game. With everything even, including the rebounding totals, the Rebels failed to block out the Lobos’ Jordan Goodman, who put back an offensive rebound for ...

Las Vegas a special place for breakout freshman Pat McCaw and his family
The Rebels (10-8, 1-4) return home trying to snap their recent skid against New Mexico (12-6, 4-2) with McCaw, the team's most pleasant surprise, now a presence in the starting lineup
Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015
In a lot of ways they were only one of many, a young couple coming to Las Vegas to get married and stick around for a honeymoon. There was one stop Jeff and Teresa McCaw just had to make, though, and it’s not a common visit for newlyweds.

Rebels’ effort for naught as San Diego State pulls away for 6-point victory
UNLV leads most of the game but falls apart at the end of a 53-47 defeat, its fifth loss in the past six games
Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015
That UNLV showed up with energy and swarmed all over the court against its rival at Viejas Arena should surprise no one. Even less shocking was that a rotation that got almost nothing from its bench ran out of gas down the stretch against a San Diego State team that applies full-court pressure the entire game ...

The Rebels have lost four out of five, and their coach is trying to figure out how to maximize balance of effort and production on the court
Friday, Jan. 16, 2015
UNLV coach Dave Rice isn’t guaranteeing lineup changes, but he saw the same things as everyone else on Tuesday at Boise State. Particularly in the first half, many Rebels looked listless and played at both ends, particularly on defense, like they didn’t care about the outcome.

The Rebels come out flat in first half and overtime in 82-73 loss, their fourth defeat in the last five games
Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015
Considering these teams’ recent history at Taco Bell Arena, it should surprise no one that UNLV and Boise State went to overtime. Considering the way several Rebels played the first half — like they’d rather be at a Taco Bell back in Vegas — it surprised those in attendance that ...

Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015

Morgan the main X-factor for Rebels to evolve during Mountain West play
The Rebels head to Boise State for the first of back-to-back road games hoping freshman Dwayne Morgan will build on recent growth
Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015
The first of UNLV’s true freshmen to commit to the program has been the last to seemingly catch up to the Division I level. Dwayne Morgan doesn’t hide from this because he knows he’s now getting better at a little faster pace. Morgan, a Baltimore native, also knows, just as the rest of the Rebels do, that his continued development could be the biggest key for UNLV growing as ...

Rebels, trying to learn from UNR loss, handle business against San Jose State
Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015
By the end, tonight was as routine as it was supposed to be and that’s precisely what the Rebels needed after starting Mountain West play 0-2.
Blog: Vaughn gets double-double in 34-point victory against San Jose State
Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015

Take 5: Rebels reeling from UNR loss heading into home game vs. SJSU
Friday, Jan. 9, 2015
The optimism around UNLV basketball despite back-to-back losses was sucked out of the gym Wednesday night when the Rebels dropped their third straight, this time at home as 10-point favorites against UNR.
Rebels not tough enough in third consecutive loss to UNR
Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015

Bern’s-Eye View: Forecasting Mountain West Basketball Week 9
Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015
Mountain West play is a little more than a week old and already it appears that the suspicions of a wide-open league race are true. Through at least two games for most teams only three teams are still undefeated and all three of them are underdogs tonight.
Rebels trying to prepare for UNR like they have recently against ranked teams

Most of UNLV’s roster can be forgiven for not understanding the depths of tonight’s rivalry game against UNR. For starters, the basketball version rarely brings out the same vitriol as ...

Rebels gain confidence from strong showing at No. 13 Kansas despite loss
UNLV leads at halftime, plays hard for long stretches before fading in 76-61 loss at Allen Fieldhouse, returns home Wednesday vs. UNR
Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015
For most of the game, no one without a chyron on their TV would have been able to tell which team was ranked No. 13 and which just lost in Wyoming. The Rebels went toe to toe for a long time in college basketball’s toughest venue, and by the end they emerged as one of the most optimistic teams on a two-game losing streak you could ever find ...
Blog: Rebels run out of gas vs. No. 13 Kansas, lose 76-61
Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015
The Rebels finished the toughest stretch in program history with a solid performance that wasn't enough as No. 13 Kansas overwhelmed UNLV down the stretch, using a 23-6 run to pull away for a 76-61 victory at Allen Fieldhouse.
Wood’s progression could take another long step forward at No. 13 Kansas
Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015
Standing in a hallway inside Allen Fieldhouse, Kansas coach Bill Self looked around for a good way to further describe a player he had already said was “different than anybody you’ve ever seen.” “I think he can take one bounce and go from here to the restroom and back,” Self said, motioning toward an entrance about a half court away.
Bern’s-Eye View: No college arena better than Kansas’ Allen Fieldhouse
Friday, Jan. 2, 2015
Stating subjectivity objectively is silly yet we do it all the time, and only with closer inspection do the claims either hold true or fall unfounded. Here’s an example, and I encourage you to put this one to the test, as some will do this weekend, because I’m prepared to stand by it: There might be equals, but no college basketball venue is better than Kansas’ Allen Fieldhouse.
Rebels like almost everything except result in close loss at Wyoming
UNLV shot well, won rebounds and got 29 points from Christian Wood, but the Cowboys hold on for 76-71 win in conference opener
Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014
Christian Wood led Wyoming 19-14 less than nine minutes into the game, the result of perhaps the best start to a game that anyone in the Arena-Auditorium tonight has or will ever see. The UNLV sophomore hit every shot in sight, going 6-for-6 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.
Blog: Wood’s career-high 29 points not enough in 76-71 loss at Wyoming
Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014
UNLV's Christian Wood scored a career-high 29 points, including the Rebels' first 19 points of the game, but Larry Nance matched him point for point and the Cowboys used a strong second half and 78.9 percent shooting at the free-throw line to pull out a 76-71 victory to remain undefeated at home. Wyoming improves to (12-2) while UNLV (9-4) drops the first conference game of the season in tough fashion.

The Rebels (9-3) open Mountain West play on the road in Laramie, where the Cowboys (11-2) are undefeated this season
Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014
Limping and wincing from a first-half ankle injury, Wyoming’s Larry Nance Jr. did everything he could the last time he met the UNLV basketball team. Nance hobbled his way to 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in a 48-46 loss, the Rebels’ lowest-scoring victory since 2009.

Blog: Rebels pull off big upset, taking down No. 3 Arizona 71-67 at the Mack
Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014
Chris Wood scored 16 points in the second half, Rashad Vaughn took over down the stretch and Pat McCaw hit the final two free throws to a secure a 71-67 upset against No. 3 Arizona tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center. It's the biggest UNLV victory since defeating No. 1 North Carolina at the Orleans Arena four years ago.
Plenty to address as Rebels turn their attention to No. 3 Arizona
UNLV is 0-3, all double-digit losses, against the Pac-12 this season, and now the league's best team comes to the Mack for a 7:05 p.m. tip-off
Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014
The Rebels are generally a more focused group after losses, UNLV coach Dave Rice has said a few times this year, and that’s a positive as far as avoiding losing streaks. But the fact that ...
