Rob Miech's Take: "Chopper" has no middle gears. The walk-on and former Kevin Kruger teammate at Arizona State can look like Rebel in a china shop at times, but he's all about the team and never settles for giving less than everything he's got. Has a streaky 3-pointer and is a sticky defender.
Miech's Question: Will the mustache and goatee make it to the new year?
UNLV CAREER: Jones enters his second season in the Runnin' Rebel program in 2009-10 ... transferred to UNLV from Arizona State after the 2007-08 season ... sat out the 2008-09 season as a redshirt because of NCAA transfer rules ... is eligible to play as a senior.
SENIOR - REDSHIRT (2008-09): Used the 2008-09 season as a redshirt year after transferring to UNLV from Arizona State ... named the recipient of the Runnin' Rebels' most inspirational award, which is voted on by teammates.
ARIZONA STATE: Was on the team in 2005-06 but did not play ... played in 27 games in 2006-07 and started twice ... was eighth on the team in total minutes played (152) yet had just one turnover on the year ... scored a career-high 12 points in leading the team in scoring against Cal State San Bernardino ... shot 40 percent from 3-point range and averaged 5.6 minutes per game ... played in seven games during the 2007-08 season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2005 graduate of Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore. ... named most inspirational player as a junior and senior ... started all 29 games as a senior and averaged 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game ... shot 55.6 from the field at the state high school tournament ... team won the Metro League and state titles his senior year, finishing with a 28-1 record ... ranked 23rd at the end of the year by USA Today ... as a junior, the Crusaders won the league title ... coached by Gene Potter.
