This all began 18 months ago with a show of raw political power by Sen. Harry Reid, who leveraged his position as then-Senate minority leader and his relationship with Howard Dean and other members of the Democratic National Committee to make Nevada an early presidential voting state.
And it will end today with a show of raw political power by the winner, who will have managed to build an organization, recruit volunteers, persuade voters, dominate the media narrative and get his or her people to the caucus sites.
The entire effort by the major campaigns, and especially New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, has consumed millions of dollars and thousands of hours of labor. Thousands of Nevadans, whose commitment and passion were questioned by the local and national media, have given over their lives to the campaign, especially during the past few weeks.
With candidates hitting Elko, Reno and Las Vegas in appearances Friday, the race ends as it began, with Clinton dominating the narrative. She was first to land major endorsements of important figures, such as her state chairman, Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid.
This week, she used the run-up to the Nevada caucus to teach the less politically experienced Obama about rough politics, attacking him at every turn. He’s suspect on Yucca Mountain, having accepted money from the nuclear industry. He’s suspect on abortion rights, having voted “present” on an abortion-related issue in the Illinois Legislature. He’s suspect on gaming, having raised the issue of its social and moral costs and opposed its spread when in Illinois.
All three issues are considered fundamental to Nevada Democrats.
She accused him of wanting to raise taxes, and she questioned his ability to manage the federal bureaucracy after he said he didn’t see that as the chief role of the president. Plus, he spoke positively of President Reagan.
On each issue, Obama and his team responded, sometimes angrily: His record on Yucca is no different from Clinton’s, and she has also taken money from the nuclear industry. He’s been endorsed by leaders of the abortion rights movement and has a spotless record on the issue. Gaming is regulated by states, not the federal government. He offered up Nevada as a model of good gaming regulation and won the endorsement of the casino workers’ big union, the Culinary.
The tax increase would be levied on the wealthy and would go toward saving Social Security.
The president should have a vision and lead the country toward it, not shuffle papers around, Obama said. He was merely holding up Reagan as a model of a president who could mobilize people for change.
All this back-and-forth no doubt was confusing and even maddening to voters.
But now Nevada voters must decide by showing up at their caucus locations this morning.
On the eve of the contest, the candidates offered their final arguments in their final appearances in Las Vegas.
“When it is all said and done, it’s not about ... those of us running,” Clinton told a crowd of several thousand packed into the gym of Greenspun Junior High School in Henderson.
“It’s about you, your children, grandchildren. It’s about your future, and I am doing everything I can to make sure tomorrow is about you.”
With her husband, President Clinton, daughter, Chelsea, and one-time presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark standing behind her, Clinton then ticked off the array of daunting challenges awaiting the next president: the war in Iraq, “a war to win in Afghanistan,” an economy “showing increasing problems that are affecting the lives of so many people here in Nevada and across America,” 47 million Americans without health insurance, $100-per-barrel oil.
She pledged middle-class tax cuts, universal health care and a plan for withdrawal from Iraq in her first 60 days if elected. She also promised to introduce a $3,500-per-child tax credit to make college more affordable.
“I’m running for president because I know we can do better,” she said. “Some might say, how could we not do better?”
Obama, meanwhile, gave his standard stump speech to hundreds of supporters and more than a few still-undecided voters at UNLV on Friday night.
He made a last push, highlighting his positions on Iraq, health care and education. But he also addressed attacks on his experience and attacked Clinton -- by name, for once.
Pointing to her answer in Tuesday’s debate that she hoped a bill she voted for wouldn’t pass, he said that after spending too much time in Washington, “You don’t speak English. You don’t speak Spanish. You speak Washington-speak.”
The crowd was made up mostly of sign-waving supporters, including volunteers who planned to work today. Among them were Kristen Carter and her mother, Anne Burford-Johnson, who arrived from California on Friday morning and were set to put signs on doors at 5:30 a.m. today.
“We’re maxed out, but we’d rather see him than go to sleep,” Burford-Johnson said. “When you see him, the man inspires. It gives us energy.”
Obama closed his Nevada campaign before a packed ballroom at Caesars Palace at a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.
Obama has been advertised as the first viable black presidential candidate. At Caesars, he embraced the legacy of the civil rights movement.
“We’ve been told for so long it’s not possible. We have to wait for somebody to tell us it’s possible,” he said. “Don’t tell me I can’t do something.
“When I’m president, we’re going to take young men standing around street corners, and we’re going to start reaching them and we will say, ‘We have not given up on you.’”
Earlier at Obama’s UNLV rally, Mary Garrido said she planned to caucus today -- but still didn’t know which candidate she would support.
“My daughter told me to take a look at Obama, and I want to hear what he has to say,” she said.
After the speech, she called Obama “an inspirational speaker,” but said she was still in the undecided column.
Then -- with about 14 hours to decide -- she was off to Clinton’s rally.

The most important qualities for a President are character, integrity, and honesty.
The Clintons have spread lies and distortions about Obama. Obama has not said a single lie or distortion about Senator Clinton.
Character, integrity, and honesty.
Easy call.
Let's be sure to make it.
Obama is consistent in his waffling:
Obama "talks" against Iraq war, "votes" to fund it
Obama "talks" against Iran resolution, "absent" when voting takes place
Obama "talks" liberal and for the commoners, "loves" Ronald Regan
Obama "talks" against youthful indiscretions, "smokes" the cracks to his hearts content
Obama "talks" against playing race card, "distributes" memo to the journalist triggering race debate in South Carolina to win black votes
Two faces Elite democrat is dangerous. At least the elites on this blog supporting Obama are honest.
Obama's deception should be clear to all elite democrats by now
Obama: Ronald Regan fixed the excesses of sixties and seventies
Obama’s love for Regan:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaoYD7iZG...
Obama's waffling backbone proving to be dangerous
How is he going to be more in love with Regan than the Republicans? If he truely loves Regan, how does that lines with Regan's "state's right" and "candilac black women".
This waffler without achievement is dangerous deception.
JFK 1960: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Stat......
JFK did not win 50% of votes. This time it will be close battle. There will be no love fest with the Republicans.
Clinton and FDR, only Democrats to win more than one presidential candidate in 100 years.
It is a battle against Republicans and Clinton is the only one alive that knows how to win.
Gore would have won Arkansas, if he did not listen to the Elites and pushed Clinton away.
We would be living in a different country. This would be a different world.
Obama and character: Crack smoking social worker. God knows what other things he did that Republican will find out during general election
Obama and integrity: Poses as Democrat, talks sympthic a blacks, does not mention being brought up in a elite white family, love of his church that calls Farrah Khan a great hero, and loves Ronald Regan. Why are the Jews left out of the picture, he should pretend to be one too. He wants to be everything to everyone, end up being nothing
Obama and honesty: My campaign did not play race card, but I asked some of them to publish a memo to play the race card in South Carolina. My campaign did not express hate against Asian's but called Hillary, Senator from Punjab
Obama is a fraud with identify crisis.
Great Video!!!!!

Clinton Votes to start very stupid war!
Clinton fails to read intelligence report before Voting our brave young me to war!
Clinton votes yes for Iran resolution to GO TO WAR AGAIN! Not learning from her first mistake on IRAQ!
Clinton tells on her own web site how Reagan is one of her favorite presidents along with Bush senior! Obama never said anything like that!
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/relea...
Bill Clinton Gets Oral from an intern of his IN THE OVAL OFFICE! Anyone want to think about letting your daugter work for that guy?
Clintons = Scandal! White water, Lewinsky, Linda Tripp, Paula Jones, Kenn Starr! Enough said there...Bush has been SOOOO bad, that he make them look good by comparison!
Obama "distributes" memo to Journalists that was actually a bunch of Race issues that the CLINTONS have brought up because they have no class at all!
Hillary claims 35 years experience, but was still in college 35 years ago...
8 of those years in the white house as first lady, she hold no security clearance, gets no briefings on forgien policy. She spent a few years totally messing up universal health coverage so bad that no one wants to try to do anything about it again for 15 years!
BTW...the last 2 years of this so called experience in the white house, she wasnt even talking to Bill because he was too busy getting oral in the oval office. Humilliating her. I bet she was off crying someplace!
How much experience was she getting then cutting ribbons someplace!
Only reason she even won her senate seat was because Rudy got colon cancer and dropped out of te race!
The Clintons are Dirty, Slimy poltiticians of the Past!
Clinton is a liar and a phoney! Boo Hoo...Vote for me because I'm a woman!
Obama is the future! Lets go forward!
Gamblndan:
You rock !!!!
That was good smackdown to ignorant SeedofEvil disguised as SeedofChange, who had nothing but hateful things to write.
A woman president is change, but not when her name is Clinton. Just give it up, SeedofEvil. Hillary WILL NEVER be president. If America wants a woman president, there are FAR BETTER choices - like Napolitano, McCaskill, Pelosi, Boxer, GENUINELY QUALIFIED public servants who worked their way up, not on the coattails of a lieing, adulterous president.
OBAMA DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE OUR PRESIDENT
Obama was AWOL from his Senate seat and did not vote a record 130 times!!! when it came time to '"change" America, some "agent for change" Obama is!
In Illinois Obama fixed his wife's salary doubling it to $365,000.00 a year while he was doing nothing for the people of Illinois.
Obama's supporters are rude, vicious people from what we have encountered steadily, obviously not deserving of their candidate winning anything let alone the White House.
Obama encourages his supporter's ill behavior like he did with his smear job "stand up" routine attack on Hillary at a high school yesterday. Why not ask Hillary those questions instead of a bunch of high school kids coward?
Obama has not paid his dues like Hillary has.
Obama's health care plan leaves millions of Americans out in the cold!!
Obama and his campaign workers constantly use bait and switch attacks on their fellow Democrats. Being sneaky and dishonest are hardly traits we need all over again for 4 - 8 more years like we've suffered through with Bush.
After Obama slanders Hillary he plays innocent and becomes Mr. Nice guy, and it's "let's all have a truce" when he was the one who instigated the whole thing! never mind a truce, how about an apology Mr. Arrogant!?
Obama has no experience compared to Hillary, only a Jr. Senator 2 short years to Hillary's 7 years, including her re-election.
Obama stooped to playing a false race card effectively dividing the Democrats, pitting Democrat against Democrat and Black against White, how does Obama expect to unite the whole country when his false race accusations have split his OWN party? Hillary was simply making a point that it takes team work between leaders like MLK and FDR to get work done, and she is right! because she knows from her experience how it's done! MLK Jr. even said "Hillary didn't mean anything against his father"
Obama is too young and inexperienced to be President, JFK had 14 years in the Congress and Senate before he ran, and Obama is no JFK, how arrogant a comparison is that?
Obama steals lines from MLK and JFK for his speeches in an attempt to dupe his zombie youth, clone army into thinking he is as great as MLK and JFK. Hey Obama, here's a clue! accomplish something first like MLK and JFK did! and be original, "I have a dream" ?? get your OWN line!
Obama is a "dreamer" Hillary is a "doer"
Voting for Obama just because he says he "has a dream" is like voting for Bush because you can "sit and have a beer with him"
Obama's second largest campaign contributer is Exelon Corp, the largest nuclear energy company in America, so much for the environment! We already have a President and Vice President tied to big energy screwing us and endangering our environment, we don't need another one!
Obama and his wife are both quite obviously a very materialistic pair, as evidenced by their lush lifestyle. Bill Clinton is right! Obama is the Establishment Candidate, just look at his 'health care plan' it only covers those who can afford it!
We already have a President we are trying to be rid of giving all our money away to foreigners, we don't need another one.
We already have a President we are trying to be rid of that bases his judgments on what "God tells him to do" and that helped cause Bush's Iraq war!! we don't need another one.
We already have a President we are trying to be rid of who refuses to hold people accountable who screw up when they work for him, we certainly don't need another one. Hillary on the other hand quickly fired several of her people when they stepped out of line, she does not mess around or cover people who step out.
Obama uses the "roll technique" in speeches used by preachers to brain wash their followers into believing anything they tell them! Cult leaders use this technique to brainwash their followers into "believing" too, beware!
Obama is very arrogant talking down to Hillary in his blatant disrespect for her being a woman, 15 years Obama's senior and First Lady for 8 years, how egotistical and arrogant!
Obama is disrespectful along with his snotty, clueless followers to Bill Clinton too thumbing their noses at Bill's incredible legacy and all the great things he has done for America and poor people all over the world.
Hillary is a great lady and ready to lead on day one, she already knows exactly what to do! and we need change NOW.
Hillary All the Way!!!
Hillary said herself yesterday..
"I want to get back to where we were before President Bush became president, when the budget was balanced and the economy was running a surplus"
and in regards to Obama, Hillary said..
"My leading opponent the other day said he thought Republicans had the better ideas for the last 10 to 15 years," she said. "That's not how I remember the last 10 to 15 years.."
the choice is yours Nevada..
Even from across the country (Pittsburgh, in this case), eyes are turned toward Nevada to see if the revolution this country really needs...will continue in your great state today.
And reading just how SHRILL some Hillary supporters have become--based on the discussion boards--proves something we've all suspected...yes...even 3000 miles away:
It's a dogfight against... rather than a coronation of... the Status Quo of Clinton "leadership."
(Majority Leader Reid never foresaw this--Nevada was supposed to be a Clinton Coronation and unstoppable momentum-builder for the Clinton machine through the rest of the primary season.)
What it has now become is a battleground where the establishment's GREATEST FEAR is being realized: The American people, long suffering and long silent, are COMING OUT in record numbers to exercise their one remaining power--the power of the vote.
Long before "Change" became a tired, often repeated JINGLE...Barack Obama was quietly yet forcefully stirring a desire in millions to simply SEE a new and better nation take shape, one American at a time.
Barack has steadfastly used another word that you're going to hear more and more from other candidates...because he's tapped into the one thing SO MANY of us have been without for so long.
That word is HOPE.
Do the right thing, Nevada. For all our sakes.
The devil himself can descend in NV and vote for Hillary, He may even bring all his armies. All that will not matter. Hillary will not be the next president of the United States.
Bill Clinton may yell at reporters, he may even bark. All that will not matter. Hillary will not be the next president of the United States.
Marketer and political strategists may repackage Hillary Clinton and sell her to us; All that will not matter. Hillary will not be the next president of the United States.
All Clinton support can vote for her as long as they want; All that will not matter. Hillary will not be the next president of the United States.
Why?
Americans in the vast majority are people with a good judgment. They know and see what the Clintons are.
The following excerpt is from an essay written in November of 2002, four months before the US invaded Iraq:
"A number of very serious concerns need to be addressed about how, or even if, a military overthrow of the Saddam regime will meet our goals for Iraq or for the Middle East. In all the media coverage of this new war, the Bush administration has failed to provide the public with any clear idea of what will happen after an invasion. They show no sign that they have even considered consequences that likely would go directly against the goals they aim to achieve. Evidence suggests that establishing a favorable balance of power within Iraq will take much more time and money than the US is prepared to give, and that the long-term result of its actions will only perpetuate terrorism against the West."
This essay was written by me, at the time a 21-year-old college student, using references accessible to any American.
Hillary Clinton voted to allow President Bush to authorize an invasion of Iraq. I see two possible explanations for this. The first: she was too unconcerned to spend a few hours researching Iraq and its recent history before deciding whether to vote in favor of a unilateral invasion, paid for and executed by the citizens they represent. Had she done this, I am confident they would have noted the same concerns that I noted above, and at the very least asked questions of the administration that were never asked. The second: she did do this research. And noted the same concerns I noted above. And, despite being aware of the likely consequences, voted to allow this war to happen.
I do not know which of these two possibilities I find more frightening. Either through ignorance or political expediency, Hillary Clinton actively allowed this war to happen without asking several obvious questions.
I ask that the Nevadans who will caucus today not ignore this inexcusable failure in leadership as they decide who to support.

Eleven Salmon Press Weekly Newspapers Endorse Hillary Clinton for President
But no president can do it alone. She must break recent tradition, cast cronyism aside and fill her cabinet with the best people, not only the best Democrats, but the best Republicans as well.. We’re confident she will do that. Her list of favorite presidents - Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, both Roosevelts, Truman, George H.W. Bush and Reagan - demonstrates how she thinks. As expected, Bill Clinton was also included on the aforementioned list.
After all it was during his administration - eight years of peace and prosperity - that Hillary was able to observe, learn and contribute, all at the same time. And though she possesses traits similar to the former president, a great communicator chief among them - the voters of New York State have overwhelmingly validated her abilities - twice.
Sen. Clinton told us she doesn’t want our vote just because she’s a "woman." She wants our vote because she’s the "best." On the Democratic side we agree that she is.
Obama is by far the best Democratic candidate. Clinton has too much baggage. Billary *raised* middle class taxes in 1993. Hillary, as First Lady, stole her political enemies' FBI files, for information to use against them.
Obama brings an honest sense of Hope to America. Obama doesn't try to base his policies on the very latest and greatest opinion polls, as Billary does.
Barack Obama is genuine. He is not waffling, pandering, or partisan in his politics. He also can answer a direct question. Something Hillary has a hard time doing. Obama is what we need right now in America; positive Change we can Believe in. SEE AND THINK: John F. Kennedy's Ted Sorensen's endorsement at http://youtube.com/watch?v=ReDCmk2c2g8
Does this mean if Obama gets elected no one can ever use the words “fairy tale” again, or any other words that might suggest he doesn’t know what he’s doing or what he’s talking about or that he might be full of BS, because that might be perceived as racially insensitive?
That’s a serious issue, regardless of Obama’s politics, if political speech is going to be curtailed about something as important as the performance in office of the president of the United States, because someone’s feelings might get hurt.
I’m guessing anything remotely resembling any of the delightful remarks about Bush's chimpy appearance, intelligence, preparedness for office and performance in the last seven years would pretty much be out with poor old Obama.
Can you imagine four years of an Obama adminstration's racial slicing and dicing? What a mess. No way.
When Nev Senator Harry Reid was pushed by the Clinton machine for Senate Majority Leader (Reid is pro life- an unusual choice for the Democrats as a "leader") - the fix was in
In exchange Reid pushed for and got the early Caucus. In a Caucus the Party pays the cost-- if it was a Primary the State would have to pay.
Harry and Rory Reid control the Nevada Republican Party - they wanted a Caucus and not a primary exactly for the reasons the Clintons are now complaining. Because they were so certain Hillary would get the union support -- that just did not happen.
The Nev Dem party set the rules for the caucus last March and ratified them last August- they tried to sue this week to stop their own plan because they know the union support is so important.
Not add to that the owner/editor of the Major LV newspaper- the Las Vegas Sun (Brian Greenspun) was Bill Clinton's roommate at Yale and donated $500,000 to the Clinton library-- and WHAT A SURPRISE - his newspaper the LVSun endorsed Hillary Clinton.
Hillary will likely win the caucus today- the fact that Obama is even competitive is amazing -- (a) because of all of the above and (b) he is running against 3 people -- Hillary - Bill - and the Memory of a world before 9/11 and when there was economic prosperity
Hillary may be the democratic nominee- but it is unlikely she will win against McCain. And both of them are yesterday -- this is a new world and a whole new ballgame - politically and economically
Obama is the chance for the future to start --
I find it depressing that older voters (of which I am one) - and women (of which I am one) cannot seem to desperate their emotion of those two issues with the reality we are facing
I cannot stand the fact we could have another republican president -- or if Hillary wins-- in four years it will be Jeb
Please - in a country our size -- break the cycle
I applaud Obama for trying -- maybe it's not over yet
With his two whopping years of federal experience (most of which he has simply spent posturing and campaigning for the presidency), Obama's foreign relations experience includes...well, nothing except regular long distance telephone calls to talk with his relatives in Kenya (that's "foreign relations," right?).
Sure, Winnie the Poohbama is qualified to become the most powerful leader in the world during these especially challenging times. LOL
What I regret about these recent weeks of dirty politics, is that Barack Obama, through no fault of his own, has been painted, in lurid colors, by the Clinton's(cause let's face it, Bill is running with Hillary this time:)) into a person he is really not. It's obvious that many people didn't know about Obama before this election heated up.
I'm not trying to sway anyone's vote, because we are all going to vote the way according to our own reason. All these heated exchanges and bare naked attempts to appeal to each other's emotions for the benefit of our chosen candidate are not likely to change our minds. But with that said, and no matter if Hillary winds up destroying Barack, or if magically people wind up supporting him in wild numbers again, Barack Obama has honestly led a remarkable political life, and has largely worked toward helping the poor, fighting corporate power, and working to improve health care.
Now, you may be skeptical of that, given all the press coverage and rumors that have been floating around, but it really is true. Read Time Magazines article - http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/...
Time's article is clear and concise, but if you'd rather read just a listing of facts on Obama, read the Wikipedia Encyclopedia entry on him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obam...
Barack has lived a fairly noble life, as far as politicians go. So I just don't think its fair the way the media, and the Clinton's are trying destroying his image. he's lead a good life, and honestly believes in the idea that our government would better if we'd minimize bipartisanship polarization. He's one of our better politicians, and even if he doesn't win, he's still going to keep fighting for the common good.
Why is it that John Kerry, Senior Sen. Patrick Leahy, and even Ted Sorenson, President Kennedy's Special Counsel & Adviser, and primary speech writer-- the same guy who wrote "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country", all support and have endorsed Obama? Why is it that Al Gore is rumored to soon support Obama as well.
Do you think these seasoned political vets, with numerous years of experience under their belt, and with reputations to protect, would endorse Obama if they did not have good reason? Do you think they would just blindly choose Obama, without seriously scrutinizing his past and his record?
If you do, then you really need to turn off CNN and start reading more.
And why did these same figures not support Hillary. if Hillary is such a great candidate, such a great leader, if she is so about change, if she has so much experience, then why wouldn't they endorse her. Hasn't she been a US senator longer, and worked closely for longer with many of these people?
If you want to know why, then why not watch them explain in their own words. I think your eyes will be opened up -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=ReDCmk2c2g8
The AP just wrote a story about how Barack Obama has more experience than the Clintons are willing to give him credit for. Obama's accomplishments are more substantial and varied than Clinton suggests. And he has a longer record in elected office than she does, as a second-term New York senator.
Here's the link: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/...
The Clintons are counting on uneducated voters, and deceiving those who are educated with confusion and false statements.
Luckily we can factcheck many of this distortions her campaign puts out there. But think about it, who wants a leader that depends on ignorance and deceit to become President? Enough of the Clintons.
OBAMA WINS MOST DELEGATES
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/campaignm...
What bizarre revisionist calander do Hillary supporters use?
Obama has been a Senator for four years, not two.
Google Clinton + Obama + Spadewowrk ... and if you don't vomit when you read it, get yourself a pointy hat and a white sheet and stop trying to fool your neighbors.
"12/12/2007
Her list of favorite presidents - Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, both Roosevelts, Truman, George H.W. Bush and Reagan - demonstrates how she thinks. As expected, Bill Clinton was also included on the aforementioned list."
the above statements are from hillary's official press releasse on her own website.
anyone who can read would see that ronald regan is also a favorite president for hillary, but she would never mention that in spoken words because she has no courage; it is only safe in written press-release because the educated part of the democratic party would understand, but the illiterate part would not know that she admires reagan; but as a hypocrit, she would denounce obama for being honest in public; after all, most people do not read but just hear!!!
that is one of the reasons that she would never be president because she is hypocritical to the core!!!
