Simpson’s jail conditions stark in Las Vegas

Sat, Oct 4, 2008 (1 p.m.)

O.J. Simpson was booked Friday night into the Clark County Detention Center after being found guilty on all 12 counts in his armed robbery/kidnapping case with co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart.

When O.J. Simpson became inmate number 02648927 early on Saturday morning, everything else about his life changed, too.

The 61-year-old fallen football star and avid golfer who spent recent years in a ranch-style home in the lush Miami suburbs, now lives in a 7-foot-by-14-foot cell in a Las Vegas jail.

The once gregarious entertainer doesn't have a cellmate. He lives in the company of white, cement block walls, a small toilet and sink, and a wooden bed covered with a thin cushion. He likely has a view of a scruffy downtown Las Vegas street through two slit windows.

This will be Simpson's home until at least Dec. 5, when he is scheduled to be sentenced after being convicted on 12 charges, including armed robbery, kidnapping and assault with use of a deadly weapon.

Simpson is expected to live out the rest of his sentence in the Nevada state prison system.

For now, Simpson and Clarence "C.J." Stewart, a partner in the botched hotel-room heist that landed them both in jail, are separated from the rest of the inmate population, for their protection, police said. Police would not comment further on Simpson's conditions.

In a booking photo taken minutes after the guilty verdict was read, an emotionless Simpson wore his jail-issued prison blues. He also was issued a pair of bright orange, plastic slippers. Inmates don't get shoes.

  1. This despicable character deserves to be right where he is. Nichole and Ron must be smiling "up there". At least our Las Vegas jurors were not tricked into believing him to be innocent like those fools were in California. Life is fair; it's just a little slow sometimes.

  2. Life is always unfair, yet it is good. OJ may in some senses deserve the consequences of his life choices, yet the trial seems like one of the greatest farces of all time. OJ is a flawed human being; as are we all.

  3. The entire 13-year saga of O.J. Simpson, all the victims, their loved ones and their friends,
those who have been directly and/or indirectly affected by his acts of commision and omission is tragic, at best.

If anything, I hope, with every fibre of my moral being, I hope solace and some healing can happen for the lives this guy has affected, devastated and all but ruined.

As a man(black), I believe the following holds true, universally: In any culture, race, creed, color and religion, there are and have been many
noble people, events and accomplishments that have made us and make us proud of who we are.
Having said that, there have been deplorable people, events and behavior that have made us and
make us very humble of who we are. Afterall is said & done, EVERY culture, race, creed, color and religion is both guilty of demonstrating spectacular deeds and also demonstrating atrocious acts, which hopefully serve as powers of example as to exactly what NOT to do.

So nobody is better than or less than any other human being, period. We ALL have more in common, than we do differences. These differences are wonderful opportunities given to us, so that we ALL may grow in understanding each other, as opposed to viewing them as reasons for division. The Earth is indivisible, its fragile ecosystems and rhythms, as well. So how important are these trivial follies of a guy named O.J.?

In the grand scheme of things, how imoprtant is it? Just think...fellow humans are dying from famine, TODAY. In this day and age, this is permitted to continue, regardless of the abundance of vast
wealth, power and the resources to make "famine" exstinct, just an historical word only found in a dictionary of a human condition, that USED TO BE. Do you think the focus on world famine might be remotely more important than the melodrama of the life of a guy named O.J. Simpson?

Have a great day, unless you've made other plans.

  4. What has become of OJ's children with Nicole?

  5. My wish for OJ is that he lives 13 years longer by going to prison than had he not gone to prison.
My hope is he receives a life sentence with no possibility of parole.

  6. Maybe OJ is taking responsibility for what he has done NO WHITE BRONCO FAKE PASSPORT AND BEARD this time.

  7. The entire OJ spectacle was brought on by the same sickness that creates the lust for greed and power wrought within our immoral society. It is the weakness of humanity.

  8. What vile, ungodly and base a piece of trash this thing (OJ) is. He killed and KNEW he killed Mr. Goldman's young kid, Ron (who Simpson killed just because Ron would have identified him as the doer of his wife -- i.e. to save his own worthless skin) and then he latter refers to Ron's father as Golddigger. How obscene! Who would want to be seen with this ugly egotistical SOB or be proud to call him a friend? I guess they all must be just like him. A very sad affair.

  9. Like the memorabilia OJ has hidden, lest it be found and sold to settle the millions he owes and has never paid the victim's estates, there are other assets OJ has hidden. Let's see if he makes an effort to convert some to the cash he will need to pay for attorney's fees to overturn these verdicts. There are some who do not admit to believing in karma...how else could you explain "guilty" exactly to the day of acquittal for Nicole and Ron's murders?

  10. This is a joke!

First of all how is it robbery when the items were his?

How can the ones selling not be charged for selling stolen items? How can OJ be held responsible when Riccio is the one who setup the meeting and coerced OJ into going to retrieve "his" items? Too, according to Black's Law Dictionary, the definition of kidnapping does not fit here.

The jury had this one wrong.

I truly believe this was a jury that felt a murderer need to pay for his crimes.

OJ is innocent of the murders. Anyone who studied this case can see this was planted evidence by Mark Fuhrman. OJ's blood had EDTA in it..therefore it was planted AFTER OJ was arrested.

The CA jury could not convict OJ cause they could see after testimony that the blood samples had been missing for 3 hours and too all blood found that belonged to OJ had EDTA in it. There was 2 cc's of blood missing from the LAPD crime lab.

LAPD det testified they did not find blood stains days after the Bronco was impounded. The Bronco was broken in to after it was impounded at Viertal's lot.

OJ was convicted before this case ever started. Sad, people are so biased and they do not know the facts about the Borwn/Goldman murders so they just had to make sure he was charged in this case.

  11. Way to much hate. "This despicable character" The only thing "despicable" is the jury that couldn't see past the hype.

  12. Simply put, OJ was guilty for the murders (thank God) in that civil suit.
OJ was also incredibly stupid. PT, even if the items were his, there is a concept called rule of law. If I take something from you, you cannot come after me with a gun to get it back. That's called being a vigilante. He cannot take the law into his own hands. He needed to go through the proper channels.
Instead, he opted to take the law into his hands, brought goons with guns to a CASINO, and forced that man to stay in the room (forcing someone to stay in a room IS kidnapping).
Not to mention if you REALLY want to get technical, that memorabilla was not OJ's. It's mostly the Goldmans, whom OJ would have hidden the money from. This man is scum and ignorant as hell. He got away with not one, but two murders. He should have just lived life and stayed out of the spotlight.
Great job Vegas justice, great job jurors.

  13. I also followed the OJ trial and have read quite a few books. The small amount of EDTA was not I repeat was not in the blood at the crime scene. OJ's blood, Ron's Blood, and Nichole's blood was though. Where do you think that cut on his finger came from because he didn't have it that day of the Murders, but he had it the next day when he returned from Chicago. Anyone who thinks OJ didn't kill those two individuals imo really need a reality check.

  14. PT You must have a selective hearing and thought process. When you take anything from someone by force or intimidation of force it is robbery. Law abiding people pick up a phone and call police. When you instuct your conspirators to bring guns and look menacing you have done your self in.
Don't be so naive if the last trial would have been held in Simi Valley instead of the hood OJ would have been history 13 years ago. The only thing racial here is blacks would not have convicted him if he did it in front of them. Get real.

  15. CuriousSmith asks: "What has become of OJ's children with Nicole?"

They're adults now, in college in Boston and Florida.
