Letter to the editor:
What will the maverick do now?
Tue, Sep 30, 2008 (2:02 a.m.)
I have a quick question. Now that the bailout bill has failed in the House, will John McCain resuspend his campaign?

Obama has done zero to get the bailout bill passed.
He is still doing zero to get it passed.
Excellent leadership by Obama....exactly what we need in DC...a "present" President.
Typical tactic, try and make McCain look bad
when it is clear that he has worked hard on good
solution for america. missiles are heading for america and obama says "i'll be at the debate"
mccain says "i'll be in washington" are you serious? you think this is not a big problem?
wait til you try and borrow money next time,
it'll be like the 1970's. 20 or 30 percent down,
high rates, and perfect credit only. we've gone from easy credit to no credit in america.
All these guys claim to have the answers so what are they waiting for? Are they only gonna share their 'wealth of knowledge' if elected? And what happens to all their 'answers' if they're not elected? What a bunch of self-centered idiots.
tokaloshe,
Why would anyone have to try and make McCain look bad in this instance? He's doing a bang-up job without any help.
If the absence of a bailout plan was so important he had to "suspend" his campaign and make noise about skipping the debate last week, why isn't it that important this week?
Unless, of course, the "suspension" of the campaign was nothing but a cheap political stunt. But the maverick Senator is above all that, or so he would have us believe.
Which raises another point. What, exactly, did McCain suspend? He bailed on David Letterman but showed up on another CBS show on the same day. The next day he kept his appointment at the Clinton Global Initiative and then went on down to DC for his photo op with the President. He made a few calls on House Republicans and then declared that his influence on them had made an agreement all but complete. The campaign was back on!
He sure whipped those House Republicans into shape, didn't he? How can this guy claim he'll get things done as President when he can't even get his party together on this?
Mr. Nance,
I do believe that Obama - as early as last Tuesday when the bailout proposal came from Secretary Paulson - called for the addition of Congressional and judicial oversight provisions and caps on executive pay for those taking part in the bailout. These things were not in Paulson's original proposal, but were part of the final bill that the Republicans killed yesterday. I don't know if you'd call that leadership, but it was a darn sight better than the grandstanding display we got from McCain.
Sen. Obama, like nearly every economist in this country, insisted that the bill include provisions to STOP foreclosures, which is at the heart of this economic crisis - but the Republicans insisted that provision be watered down so badly as to be rendered useless. Only those mortgages that the government acquired were protected, so Main Street America was left out of the protections, and Congress heard the screams of backlash from their constituency. Had they listened to a wise leader (Obama), it might have passed.
This bailout can't work unless it gets to the root of the problem: the foreclosure crisis. Even if we pass the $700 billion, foreclosures will keep happening, and we'll need another, much larger bailout in a few months.
Sen. Obama didn't need to be standing in Washington, injecting himself in this process. As nearly everyone in Congress agreed, that only muddled things worse. He made his position clear, then he removed himself. That was a responsible thing to do.
LIsten you Obama-maniacs or whatever you call yourselves, stop being idiots and realize what some form of bail out package for banks will mean. If the credit markets can be fixed than that means mortgage companies can start lending again, and that in and of its self will support housing prices and slow down the foreclosures. At least McCain got in there and did some work, Obama stood on the sidelines and did nothing- afraid to offend anyone, what a pussy. Criticism is cheap- action is what we need now.
Do you want to see how we got here? watch this and I look forward to any Obama supporters to try and defend any of the Democrats in this video. Watch and learn-

The Democrats have been playing politics with this bill from day one.
On Sunday, Pelosi said it was not a bi-partisan bill.
Obama in the meeting tried to stir up trouble.
Pelosi needed Republicans to vote for the bill because she could not change 95 Democrats vote.
What did she do....she pissed on them!
That is stupid......
Being stupid is not leadership.
Well since everyone else is off topic, I shall put my two cents in too.
It just amazes me how each poster on this site that is in favor of McCain always sounds so angry and uses such hateful nasty language.
Posters who are undecided or for Obama seem to have a more logical and calm way of express their views and seem to (for the most part) reframe from name calling and the use of foul language.
It was the same in the presidential debate; McCain was angry and would not look at Obama at all, and Obama was calm and faced his opponent with respect.
I have always told my children that people use foul language because they are not educated enough to get their point across without it, but then again, public education is a "socialist" concept so I guess that explains everything.
Socialism: "Government mandated social engineering (shaping society or shaping individuals to conform to a societal ideal)."
Maybe we sound angry because we are watching our great country slide towards the abyss. Meanwhile, Obamaniacs live in a carefree dreamworld where big government will take care of us from cradle to grave with little or no effort required on our part. Must be nice, what color is the sky in your world? Must be RED.
"Being stupid is not leadership."
You are stealing the title of the George Bush documentary coming out next year! Do you have the inside scoop?
Your beloved Bush, the stupid "leader" of the free world, can't even convince Republican congressional leaders to vote with him on the most important American issue since the great depression! Again, smoke something else or leave the room.
Thanks Nance! I will print this slogan on a bumper sticker with a picture of Bush and Cheney. I should be a millionaire by next week!
Can you say Nuclueear?
We're all off point here. The point of the letter is that John McCain is a hypocrite. A cheap political hypocrite. McCain said the financial crisis was so important that he had to suspend his campaign because Congress hadn't passed legislation addressing the problem. Well, they still haven't. So why is McCain out there campaigning?
The answer is obvious. McCain was lying to us in the first place; he never suspended anything, least of all his campaign. This whole thing was a cheap political stunt. The fact that he hasn't re-suspended his campaign if proof positive.
Pelosi and Obama are cheap political hacks.
Obama said he was gonna phone it in and has offered zero leadership.
Pelosi could not get any of the 95 Democrat no votes to switch.
Then she needed Republican votes.
She pissed on them while asking them for their vote.
That is stupid.
Stupid is not leadership.
