Letter to the editor:

Voters deserve honest answers

Fri, Sep 19, 2008 (2:03 a.m.)

As I watch the campaigns of the two candidates I have no clue whom to vote for, yet.

I have had enough of the insults they are throwing at each other and would like a straight answer on some important issues.

Whoever wins will take the oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the United States and enforce the laws of the United States.

I have seen the pandering to a group of illegal immigrants with promises to take care of them. Which is it? Are the candidates going to enforce the laws of the United States with respect to the Constitution, or are they going to ignore the laws they don’t like?

I am waiting for an “honest” answer from the candidates. Are they willing to stake their reputations on upholding the law? As a U.S. citizen, I have the right to honesty before I make a decision on whom to support.

  1. From both candidates I want to know details of the following:
    1. How will your plan for education actually improve education? Merit pay...give us the specific details of how, what, why, when and how much teachers will receive. Salary increases...outline the specifics of how it will be done. What will you do to implement stronger discipline in all schools?
    2. Health programs: how will your program be implemented, for whom, if not all...why not, what about prescription drug costs, etc.? How will paying for private health insurance be any better than what we currently have? What about insuring those with previous health problems like cancer, heart disease, etc.,etc.
    3. What will you do about taxes for middle income Americans, not just the rich? Explain the specific details of your plan and how I would benefit with you as president.
    4. How will you stop illegal aliens from benefiting from social security and medicare at the expense of all citizens of this country?
How will you enforce the laws of the U.s. regarding illegals?

    5. what is your stand on stem cell research, cloning, etc.?
How will you improve science and math education in this country? What is your stand on evolution and creationism in schools?

  2. 6) What are your plans to stop the war on American people and their Constitutional rights?

    7) Do you consider the war on drugs a success or a dismal failure.

    8) What will you do to make elected officals accountable to their constituents and not big business and lobbyists?

  3. Ok here is my official campaign promise

    1) a) Tuition tax scholarships - tax credits for private individuals and corporations for donating to scholarship organizations so low-income and disabled children can attend the private school of their choice

    b) open enrollment in all schools
    c) school districts disolved. Each school will be run independently or in collectives (if they so choose). Power to higher and fire and negotiate contracts left with individual schools
    d) teachers and parents may vote to become independent charter schools
    e) institute a voucher program worth $6000 with a 50% tax credit for the unused portion of the voucher.
    f) merit pay for teachers, determined by student performance in objective exams, plus bonus pay for teachers in schools that perform well or improve.

    2) a) I will end Nevada's rule that makes it illegal to buy health care from companies abroad.

    b) Allow individuals moving to Nevada to keep out of state health insurance policies.
    c) disolve medial licensing and practice boards and encourage the creation of more local clinics. Allow patients to decide if they want a nurse or doctor to care for them, not the law.
    d) stimulate the growth of health savings accounts.
    e) move all public employees onto health savings accounts

    3) I will abolish the current tax code. We will move to the "Fair Tax" a sales tax on the final consumed good with a prebate to each taxpayer paid to them at the begining of the month.

Corporate taxes and income taxes will be abolished.

    4) Social security will be privatized. Mexico will be strongly encouraged to reform its economy and become a capitalist, rather than socialist nation.

    5) a) let the private sector invest or not invest in stem cell research. It now looks like it was an intellectual fad anyway.
    b) education reform will improve science and math, not the government.
    c) let the individual schools decide what to teach. Science vs creation is a debate that has no place in government. It has only become a problem because government dominates education.

    6) Restore the American constitution by an aggressive war on our federal bureaucracy. Dept of Ed, Transportation, Homeland Security, Interior, and the EPA will all go on the chopping block.

    7) Yes the war on drugs has been a failure. We have make the drug trade profitable enough to attract low brow criminals to mastermind terrorists while putting Americans in prison who did nothing wrong but harm their own boddies.

    8) I will eliminate the governments ability to pick winners and losers in our economy. No bailouts, no corporate welfare, and institute a highly deregulated economy with the government playing the role of property rights and contract enforcer. With no ability to pick winners and losers big corporations will find they can't survive with the governments help, they can only survive by providing customers with the best goods and services they can offer.

  4. If all schools have open enrollment, why would private schools or even scholarship funds be needed? And why would anyone need a voucher?

With no medical/practice licensing boards, who gets to decide who's a "doctor"? What happens to unused portions of HSAs? And why would anyone need an HSA anyway?

From where do you get the "prebate" money to pay to individuals?

Who builds & maintains the infrastructure?

Who's responsible for all the "oops! we didn't know" in your de-regulated world? (Please refer to my response to you on another thread re corporate/union greed for examples.)

Who gets to interpret the "American constitution"?

    Who defends the country?

What will you do about "the war on drugs"? (You really didn't make this clear though this may be the one thing with which I agree, if I read you correctly.)

  5. carol, you've now posted that same thing on three different threads.

    Would you care to elaborate?
