Flashpoint:
The tragic news that Tim Russert had died Friday …
Sun, Jun 15, 2008 (2 a.m.)
The tragic news that Tim Russert had died Friday hit me professionally and personally. Russert was an icon to many in the media and I watched and studied him religiously. When people ask about “Face to Face,” I almost always explain the program is a local version of “Meet the Press,” a tip of my hat to a man I admired for his tenacity and research. But there was more to it. Russert, like me, is from Buffalo, N.Y. I met him for the first time at the presidential caucus at Cashman Field. The big media shark was gracious and friendly to this little media fish. And he even needled me for giving him a hard time about ignoring Nevada’s importance — he read me, he really read me! He was one of a kind and will be missed.

What a wonderful tribute to Tim Russert, Jon. This weekend watching MSNBC, I heard similar comments from people. And this morning, MSNBC had clips of an interview with his son, Luke, that was done shortly after Sunday's Meet The Press memorializing Tim. Luke was so composed and gracious. He made his father proud. I am saddened by his death although I never met him. But I enjoyed his broadcasts and enthusiasm. Maybe that's the Irish in me. Thanks, Jon, for the touching story!
