LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Blame conservatives for nation’s ills

Sat, Jun 14, 2008 (2:03 a.m.)

Humanity is about to pay a horrible price for the retrograde thinking of conservatives.

Our food is not always safe because conservatives do not believe that government should be responsible for food safety; our economy is undermined by speculation and cronyism because conservatives do not believe in either equality or regulation; our kids are not being well educated because conservatives are more concerned with pushing religion and creationism than teaching true science; our farms, homes and wetlands are being destroyed by drought, flooding and storms because conservatives do not believe the clear warnings of atmospheric scientists that go back 30 years; and many Americans have little or no medical benefits because conservatives do not believe in anything approaching universal health care.

We are at war because conservatives tend to be conspiratorial and think we must impose our values on other sovereign nations, especially if they have oil; we’re losing our freedoms because conservatives do not believe (when in power) that “we the people” has any meaning, and we’ve lost the admiration of the world because of our imperialism and lawlessness, including torture, wire tapping and secret prisons.

What conservatives do worry about is that some immigrants do not speak English, that some poor person will get an unearned penny, and that they, personally, will see their taxes increased.

  1. Amen - well said.

  2. Perfect example of a liberal! The conservatives are to blame for taxes, I suppose. The conservatives are to blame for allowing law-breakers to go free, as well. And, conservatives are to blame for tornadoes. And conservatives are to blame for...
Now you know how utterly stupid and inane this entire blathering appears to thinking folks. This dweeb is flailing about blaming everything on a philosophy, the nature of which he knows so little it is pitiful.
Typical of the X-gen public school educated types that spout the fetid and stale regurgitant piped into his mushy brain by unlearned "teachers."

  3. Maybe David Fredericks learned his type of thinking from the conservatives who ALSO like to place blame - on any issue that's not leaning in THEIR favor they lay blame at the feet of the Democrats and Liberals (which are not necessarily one and the same). So Stohnman, perhaps the saying 'you reap what you sow' has some real meaning afterall - or are you going to concede that perhaps it's best to blame BOTH SIDES, yes, I said BOTH SIDES when it comes to the sorry state this Country finds itself in. No ONE party is perfect by any means - but in my 60 yrs. it's pretty much been the Republicans support big business and the wealthy and the Democrats are the working mans party - I still believe it! The one thing the Republicans are FINALLY starting to succeed in is eliminating the Middle Class - to them it's always been if you're not RICH then you DESERVE to be POOR - in other words no such thing as middle class - and it's certainly leaning in that direction (the elimination of the true middle class blue collar worker)
