LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Don’t let spite cloud your judgment

Sat, Jun 7, 2008 (2:02 a.m.)

I sincerely hope the Hillary Clinton followers will remember that they are Democrats first of all and need to be true to the party. They should not vote for McCain-Bush out of spite against Barack Obama.

Discussion: 3 comments so far…

  1. It is not spite to choose to not support a candidate that you do not want as the President of the United States. America is a very divided country. I hope that people do not think that just because their (my) candidate did not win the nomination that I will not ignorantly change my extremely strong opinions about Barack Hussein Obama and just vote for him because he and I are Democrats.

I am voting with my mind, my heart, my responsibility to vote and my dedication to my Country. I was strongly for Senator Clinton. She is not the Democratic nominee. Therefore, I had to assess the 2 choices. Either Senator Obama or McCain. I choose to vote Republican for the first time in my life.

There is no "healing" to do. I don't think anyone, Democratic or Republican should blindly support a nominee just because they belong to the same party. I am voting for the person and what they represent or do not represent. Most people vote against someone.

I am voting for McCain and against Obama. That is my choice and my personal responsibility. It's not spite, it's my American choice and responsiblity to vote the for best Candidate for the position. Regardless of what party they belong to and it doesn't matter to me what celebrity endorses someone. It's an individual choice.

I do not believe that most voters who voted for Senator Clinton are going to vote for Senator Obama. I don't care what she is saying about supporting Senator Obama. They clearly don't like each other and their views on issues are too different. Senator Clinton's views are closer to McCain's. Easy choice and I vote in each election since 1976. I've been right more times than wrong.

  2. If you were for Hillary first but for McCain now, you are voting on something other than the issues and you need to ask yourself exactly what that is. Senator Clinton's and Senator Obama's positions on the issues are very close, certainly much closer to each other than they are to Senator McCain.

    To wit:
    1) Both Clinton and Obama favor letting the Bush tax cuts expire. Senator McCain supports extending them.

    2) Both Clinton and Obama support nominating Supreme Court judges who res[ect, among other things, Roe v. Wade. McCain wants to overturn Roe and would nominate justices in the mold of Alito and Scalia.

    3) Both Obama and Clinton support disengagement in Iraq. McCain supports our continued presence.

Finally, Senator Clinton seems to think that Obama more closely represents her way of thinking; she has endorsed him for President.

So please, don't try and tell us that you were for Clinton and are now for McCain because McCain more closely represents your position on the issues. If that's true, either you were supporting Clinton for some reason other than the issues or you are not supporting Obama for some reason other than the issues.

Personally, as a Democrat, I would have been happy with either Obama or Clinton. The thought of supporting John McCain for President has never entered my mind. His stands on the issues are far too conservative for me.

  3. "rosiedays" this is why we got stuck with Bush (twice) and Gibbons (the worst Governor ever in Nevada history) - because too many Democrats voted for the Republican!

I've voted for the Republican candidate on a few rare occasions because I knew them and knew they were the better candidate - but that was before the Republican party was taken over by radical, right-wing, neo-con warmongering nutcases!

Any Clinton supporter that stays home and refuses to do their duty and help Get Out The Vote for Obama is a coward in my humble opinion!

Any Clinton supporter that votes for McCain is nothing short of a traitor! So, go ahead, "rosiedays" vote for McCain - the blood will be on your hands!
