Letter to the editor:

If Clinton loses, Obama our best bet

Tue, May 20, 2008 (2:01 a.m.)

I have in the past year been a steadfast supporter of Hillary Clinton. But I have come to realize that mathematically she cannot obtain the Democratic presidential nomination — unless some unforeseen catastrophe occurs within the Barack Obama campaign. If, indeed, Obama wins the nomination, my allegiance will go to him.

I have come to this conclusion because I cannot vote for John McCain after he responded affirmatively to the outrageous and disgraceful remarks George Bush made in Israel. And when McCain says we will be out of Iraq by 2013, he contradicts what he said about being in Iraq maybe 100 years.

McCain says he is a maverick. I say he is a fence walker. He aligns himself with George Bush when it is to his advantage, then distances himself when it is to his advantage. Voting for McCain is like voting for Bush for four more years.

I will greet Obama with an open mind regarding his positions on health care, financial security, the war in Iraq, and, especially, how he will bring hope and change to this wonderful country of ours.

  1. If you are a supporter of Senator Clinton then supporting Senator Obama should not be a problem (and vice versa); their views on almost every major issue are quite similar. Anyone who would support Clinton (or Obama), but then choose to vote for McCain over Obama (or Clinton), is voting on something other than the issues.

  2. In fairness, McCain did not say we would be at war in Iraq for 100 years. He did not contradict himself. But don't get me wrong; I do not support McCain or his ideologies. McCain might as well change his name to Bush. We face crises of unparalleled challenge. Four more years of the same response - which is in large part what got us into this mess in the first place - is hardly the solution.

  3. Hussein is our only hope.

    Sincerely,

    The Republican Party
