Letter to the editor:
Media failing at duty to inform the public
Tue, Apr 22, 2008 (2:02 a.m.)
The most recent candidate debate on ABC accentuated my growing frustration with the media.
A free press and the use of the public airwaves should help to create an informed and thinking public. Instead, we are bombarded with repeated inane discussions and articles about lapel pins, sex, associations with acquaintances who had bad political stances many years ago, and religious practices (or lack thereof).
There are so many vital issues to examine: wars; infrastructure; taxes; the debts we leave our children; chief executive officers whose horrible business judgments caused huge company losses who were rewarded with millions in severance packages; education; unaffordable health care and drug prices (to name just a few of the myriad problems we face).
It is the responsibility of the media, with all their power, to present and discuss major issues.
With the current lack of focus on real issues, we are heading toward a poorly informed, unthinking, blind electorate. We deserve better than countless other countries where there are no uncensored media to stimulate intelligent thought and discourse.
Please help keep America thinking and free.

I think it was one of the few good debates. It exposed Obama as a bumbler that can only parrot pre-written statements.
