Letter to the editor:
Politicians care only about themselves
Tue, Apr 15, 2008 (2:03 a.m.)
I would like to express the real pain I feel when I hear our politicians say they feel our pain and know what our great country is going through. It pains me to watch and listen to them put their own selfish interests ahead of doing what they were elected to do, which is to represent us and do what is best for our country no matter what the political consequences to them are.
It pains me to see this great country’s infrastructure going to hell because the politicians are too busy making deals that benefit their own special interests.
It pains me when I see more and more police officers and innocent citizens being gunned down by the scum who deprive decent, law-abiding people of living in safety, as they have a right to expect.
It pains me when our politicians get us into a war and then screw it up so badly. Yet they want just a few men and women to fight it when the rest of the country doesn’t give a damn. If we are at war, and I certainly do believe it’s a war that involves more than Iraq and Afghanistan, then let’s institute the draft.
That’s another thing the politicians don’t have the guts to talk about. Serving in the military would not only help the country, it would also do a lot to instill some sorely needed character and respect for authority in our young people.
I could go on and on about pain and what is happening to the country I love. I served in World War II. I was 17 years old when I enlisted. Do I sound angry? Yes, I am when I see something like a cancer spreading through our country. Wake up, America, before it’s too late.

Hopefully the country will get rid of the cancer that has populated the White house for 8 years soon and put in a fiscally responsible Democratic president. Finally we can get the economy on track again.
