flashpoint:
A pristine reputation on
Thu, Mar 27, 2008 (2 a.m.)
He has survived two corruption scandals a quarter-century apart and managed to retain a pristine reputation on the most sullied government body in the state. And now he wants more? Bruce Woodbury, who was appointed to the Clark County Commission in 1981, announced Wednesday that he wants one more term. In a local government environment where scandals, large and small, have erased councilmen and commissioners, large and small, Woodbury has remained a relentless giant. He has pushed ahead on issues, especially transportation, while others have behaved unethically and been excised or faded into obscurity and been retired. I can’t imagine why he wants to do it again, but the county is lucky he does.

'Puerto Rican governor charged in campaign finance probe'
"Our democratic system cannot function when public officials act as though they are above the law," said Luis Fraticelli, special agent in charge of the FBI's San Juan Field Office. "Public officials must comply with the law, and those who do not comply will be held accountable."
