Reid calls $4 gas ‘deeply disturbing’

Gasoline prices that top the $4-per-gallon mark are "deeply disturbing," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said today, promising to find short-term and long-term relief for Nevada motorists.

The Nevada Democratic senator today issued a statement reacting to motorist group AAA's report on Sunday that showed the state's gasoline prices moved above $4 per gallon for the first time.

"I know these soaring gas prices are draining our wallets, and I want to assure my fellow Nevadans we are taking action right now in Congress to provide both short-term and long-term relieve to this awful situation," Reid said.

He said the Climate Security Act and the Consumer-First Energy Act are intended to reduce the burden of rising energy prices on consumers in the long term by investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

"As we do that, our state will lead the world in 'going green.' Nevada's wealth of clean wind solar and geothermal resources can be developed into a world-leading green industry that creates good-paying jobs and strengthens our economy," he said.

  1. More dumb rhetoric and NO ACTION from Harry Reid!

  2. Oh please, dear God, do not let the voters be so dumb to swallow this BS!

    Reid's bill will:
    1) Tax energy
    2) Suppress supply of energy from coal, natural gas, oil and nuclear sources
    3) Push on us the expensive energy that comes from solar and wind.

This bill over time will cause our energy prices to greatly increase.

This is more of what we have been getting for the last 10 years and is one of the reasons why gas is at $4 a gallon.

    Will the people wake up?

  3. Yes, the "action" Boss Reid is talking about is a 3 day debate on the climate change bill.

THREE STINKING DAYS!~! And now even that has been stalled http://lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jun/05/...

If you want Reid out as SML then vote for Obama and real change.

  4. Well on the one hand we have the Senator "disturbed" about the price of gas and on the other hand we have the Senator promoting a climate change bill which would raise the price of gas. The "deeply" comes in to it if the voters ever catch on to his act.

  5. I wonder if he's upset on all his money grabbing side deals????????
