Darrell’s family ties

During Fox’s pre-race show at Martinsville, Darrell Waltrip was asked by host Chris Myers for his take on the missing sway bar controversy. As Darrell was giving his answer I kept thinking that he shouldn’t comment on issues involving his brother. It’s a conflict of interest. Now, Darrell’s immense knowledge of the sport is a great asset to Fox’s team and he is one of the few commentators who isn’t afraid to take on NASCAR from time to time, but how do the viewers know his observations are objective regarding issues involving his brother?

The next week at Texas, Chris had a Toyota-related question that he asked commentator Jeff Hammond. As Chris asked the question he made mention of how he wasn’t asking Darrell the question. I don’t know if someone at Fox recognized that Darrell shouldn’t comment on things regarding Toyota and his brother, but I was happy to see that the question was tossed to Jeff instead.

  1. Well made point Mike, I totally agree with you.

Though I am not much of a fan of the Waltrip brothers, I do think Darrell adds to the show (at least when he can talk, not croak) with his knowledge and opinions.

Mickey, I just plain do NOT trust him, and if he needs a spokesperson/lawyer, it should not be his older brother. And 'older brother' should know better, and keep his mouth shut (a tall order!) when it involves family business.
