Kyle Busch, a Las Vegas native, continued his torrid start to the season Friday by capturing the pole for Sunday’s UAW-Dodge 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Busch knocked Carl Edwards off the pole with a lap of 29.613 seconds at 182.352 miles per hour. It was Busch’s first pole of the season and third of his career.
In six races this season, Busch has a pair of fourth-place finishes in the Cup Series, two runner-up finishes in the Nationwide Series and a victory and a second-place showing in the Truck Series.
“It’s just been crazy the way things have been going,” Busch said. “Sooner or later, you wonder when the fall’s going to happen but I’m a pretty good surfer so as long as this wave’s here, I’m going to ride it.”
No driver ever has won a Las Vegas Cup race from the pole.
Edwards will start on the outside of the front row after a lap of 29.738 seconds at 181.586 mph. Mark Martin, who won the inaugural Cup race at LVMS in 1998, will start third, Jeff Gordon, the 2001 race winner, will start fourth and Mike Skinner qualified fifth.
Kurt Busch, Kyle’s older brother, qualified ninth and Las Vegas resident Patrick Carpentier qualified 12th and was the fastest rookie.

The Shrub rules!!! Not a bad time for the 'frog' from Canada either! OK, OK, so I do have his autograph on a piece of artwork that I did, what the hell!! Gotta cheer for the damn foreigners now and then, yes y'all??
Anyone gripe about the Goodyear tires today?
This is a blog; why is it almost all you ever do is ask questions, who cares about your questions? I think (though I could be wrong), the idea is that we make statements (maybe what we feel, think, believe, etc.). Is that too tough for you to do BringtheRain?? Or would you rather just remain an anonymous moron who contributes little.....yeh, I thought so!!
Hmm...Canfan, your asking a question(more than one, I see) instead of just making a statement, so I guess your the pot calling the kettle black.
METAL. He's the pot calling the kettle METAL!
Well said Crazy20fan (I love that name!!), I believe I have been called!! But then again, what have you got to say about anything? When I look at my buddy BringtheRain's last post....I wonder, do you understand him? Please let me know.
To answer your question Bring, a couple of drivers noted that the tire was still harder than they would like but they struggled with the grip because the track temperature Friday was about 40 degrees hotter than when they tested at LVMS at the end of January.
Dang, no wonder I was confused, I thought the reference was to blimps. Sorry BringtheRain. I really should stay away from this blog on Friday nites!
