If its such a money maker, why don't they build the arena themselves.
I'm tired of us taxpayers financing all these boondoggles.
Remember the fixed rail???
No way, NO WAY, NO WAY. The county and "us" Las Vegas Tax payers are not the piggi bank for spectulators. I will surely vote against any deal involving "us" to pay for a NBA arena. And I would surely remember any elected official who vote yes, come election time!
One thing people forget is this towns economy is driven on special events, conventions and tourism.
While I hate spending tax payer dollars it successfully works. Look at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Without it the other two convention centers alone could not drive this towns economy.
Do we wait for the economy to turn and hope that MGM or Harrahs can take on more debt to help retain the events by demolishing and building grander arenas or new ones. We are losing some of them currently to more modern facilities or do we let this town, county and state sink due to our failure as a government to act responsibly.
Sometimes when additional tax revenue is going to be generated sharing some of that back to spur expansion is good. The county (us tax payers) will still get more tax money by acting then not. Put in a fail safe of taking over the ownership of the center if certain criterias are not met.
The poll question and any story written so far lacks the full picture and what we risk by doing nothing and what the true risks are if we move forward.
If that site does not get developed for another 10 years or 2 years from now what is the difference. These should be the questions and answers we look for to make a true responsible decision.
Oh awesome... another "sure thing" like Neonopolis and the Monorail. No, No, No! If it's such a great moneymaker, there should be no shortage of those in the private sector willing to finance this albatross.
