Sometimes the truth hurts!! This city is sooooo f'd up with a boozer mayor and a moron Gov., lay off the Prez for speaking the truth. Why does Gillespie go after strippers, Hookers, Johns??? I thought it was "Sin" City??? Just close everything "sin" in this town and you won't have to whine anymore.
For a person who is such an eloquent speaker he sure puts his foot in his mouth when it comes to Vegas.
Hopefully when he apologizes he will do it on camera also.
In bad times you must be conservative with your money ,gambling is the last thing one should do in theseawful times
When the recovery comes then vegas will prosper again which sadly is still 2-3 yrs out
I'm from the midwest ( love vegas ) here people are very scared about their jobs there's no recovery here when we and the country recover so shall vegas
Give the president some slack....he merely spoke the truth ! !
How would we react to this ill chosen comment if Obama had said don't go to Disney World/New York City/Hawaii - save for college? Las Vegas did not deserve this any more than these cities did.
I agree with Tedsamy12, singling out a city shows extremely poor judgment. He could have said "don't blow your cash on gambling" or "don't blow your cash on stuff you don't need". Why single out Vegas over Atlantic City or Orlando or San Diego, etc?
His remarks have absolutely had a real economic impact on Las Vegas. Just ask convention centers how many corporate conventions or retreats were pulled from Vegas and were moved to other cities! (A perfect example is Wells Fargo; they canceled their outing altogether immediately after Obama ripped them for planning a rewards conference here in Vegas to recognize their top bankers.)
USABRAZILCANADA, you're assuming that he'll apologize for his comments. He had the perfect opportunity to apologize locally to Las Vegans when he came for a Harry Reid event last year. Did he; not even close!
His poor judgment and pride will both keep him from recanting his words.
Cry babies... who cares what he says. Do you think people are going to listen to him? Probably not. You idiots are getting all bent over this for nothing.
Come on, Vegas. Take off your rose colored glasses, dry your crocodile tears and put on your reality hats. Humans are never going to stop gambling. We wouldn't stop gambling if God Him/Herself came down and gave us a direct order, much less the President of the United States. You all know the reality of gambling. It's fun. It's exciting. It's wild abandon. But nobody wins except the house. Nobody"if they did, Steve Wynn and all the other owners who euphemistically call it, "Gaming" wouldn't be living in penthouses, buying yachts and rubbing shoulders with politicians. Las Vegas has labored for years to solidify its image of gambling's gossamer promises. Why waste all that effort on hankies?
Here's the hitch. There comes a time in every life when money is tight, when an individual has to make a choice between wild abandon and eating. We are living in one of those times. Of course you see that. You may even be experiencing the worst of that. You know that Mayor Goodman and Senator Reid and every other politician who wants to impress you with his/her political side-stepping is doing just that, political pole dancing, and no more.
The reality of the matter is this: During these difficult times do you want people to keep their homes, feed their kids and save a little bit just in case"or do you want, families be damned, to purchase another yacht for Mr. Wynn.
Trust me, the world will be flying back to Vegas (or maybe even getting there by Maglev) when times get better unless the politicians keep them away with their tiresome grandstanding.

Going in to debt for fun and spending for the hell of it is why this country is in trouble right now.
Las Vegas has overspent in its gaming sector with too many construction projects. It is not the President's fault if Vegas can't fill all of those hotel rooms and Nevada has done nothing significant to diversify its economy.
Get over your whinging selves.
Without gaming, this place would be Barstow NV.
President Obama's comments spoken by "Anyone" are reasonable! Comments illustrating the times and conditions, telling us to be responsible and accountable. Something our State and Local elected officials have fail to do. Oscar Goodman, what a joke. The News Media consistently give this drunk a break. John Ensign and Harry Reid has exhaust their influence and must move on. Mr. President, I love Nevada and make my living working in gaming. I enjoy my job and the excellent gaming company that I work for.
You no brains stop blaming the President for speaking truthfully. Our elected officials need a backbone, stop blaming others for your lack of vision and passion to help our local ecomony.
The President is saying-- be responsible! You sensitive emotional half-brains, stop looking for excuses to distract from your limitations! Say it again Mr. President, next time say it loud!
The more I read these idiotic comments the madder I get.
Where does Pres. Obama get the right to tell the general public to be responsible and spend our money wisely when he can't produce a balanced budget?
Longtimevegan; As a long time Vegas resident (if you are) you should know there is more to Vegas than gaming. Conventions are critical to the economy. Look at the fall out from his last off the cuff remark about Vegas.
It's amazing how many people can't read a simple sentence. The President said "You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college." He didn't say nobody should blow money in Vegas. But with the "Big Three" blowing their top over his remark, Nevada comes out looking like idiots. The rest of the country now thinks Nevada puts a higher priority on having a good time than on education. As one wag said to me, "based on the fact that Nevada is 49th in spending on education, at least they are putting their money where their mouth is."
No! There are many people living here gambling away their mortgage and car payments. I've seen it often working in one of the local casinos.
For President Obama:
Somehow Mr. President, you really don't know Las Vegas. Instead of finger pointing us, look in the mirror.
If families are tightening their budgets should they be giving to politicians and political parties and instead pay their mortgages.
Corporations and unions can improve also their economic futures by stop giving to lobbyist, politicians and political parties instead paying for R&D for future products or unions educating members on new skills.
Please have the Democratic Party and yourself refuse campaign contributions in these tough economic times and return money not spent.
Also, would not America be better off if 535 members of Congress and your administration would resign and instead have people from Las Vegas running this country as we know how to manage money be it cage personnel, dealers, slot attendants, finance, etc...
So President Obama, before slamming Las Vegas which by the way helps America with our balance of payments with other countries as we provide an experience to foreign visitors who leave behind their currency. Instead promote Las Vegas and maybe hire some of its workers in your administration since no one in Washington understands how to account for, reconcile and balance cash.
PS. I understand you did not pick up an pointers from the previous administration so they had a tough time managing cash too.
WOW! I cant believe some of you nerds. For real...to the so called MAYOR of VEGAS..have some RESPECT! Show some class! Your comment about not letting Obama into Vegas was idiotic! Obama isnt slamming Las Vegas. He is telling the people of this country to spend, the money they have, wisely. Man, people now a days have nothing better to do than complain about stupid stuff. I can tell you this... My friends and I were planning a trip to Vegas..but after the way Your Mayor handled this whole situation for get it. Its not about what Obama said. Its how foolish The Las Vegas Mayor is. LV is and awesome city..have always loved it. The mayor should pack his bags to the retirement home and leave. One thing you should have been taught MAYOR..is to respect your boss.
