Keep it for Republicans and gun owners; the rest, repeal it.
The death penalty serves no purpose. It doesn't deter nor is it reversible. If an innocent person is executed - and make no mistake, innocent people have been executed and will continue to be executed as long as the death penalty exists - there is no bringing him back. Being in favor of the death penalty means you believe that executing an innocent person is preferable to not executing a guilty person. Better to lock them in jail and throw away the key.
Do away with it. Every day we see advances in DNA testing that could prove the innocence of a wrongly accused individual. B U T . The sentence should be "Life, WITHOUT Parole". In addition, legislation needs to be enacted to prevent kind hearted governors from communting the life without parole sentence, or converting them to parole eligible. Safeguards must be in place to maintain the LIFE terms.
