Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer compare the run Moapa Valley is on in the Division 1-A to the one Bishop Gorman has put together this season in the upper decision. Other familiar arguments arise, including a debate on whether Arbor View should be considered as the second-best team in the state. Give us your thoughts in the comments.

As a Moapa alum, saying Moapa is as dominent as Gorman is crazy. There is absolutely no chance Gorman will lose to ANYONE this season. There is a chance Moapa will lose this season. Virgin Valley, Desert Pines, Truckee, Fallon, Fernley could all beat Moapa (although I don't think any of those teams will beat Moapa, but they all could). Liberty and Arbor View are the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the State and neither of those schools has a chance against Gorman.
I appreciate all the love people are giving Moapa, its nice to see the media giving respect to the great football program they have.
Moapa is dominate but sportsarefun you are right, its possible for someone to beat them, it wont be easy, but possible. At this point in the season it doesnt look like anyone will , but there is a chance. I don't think anyone including Arbor and Liberty will come within 30 points of Gorman unless they call the dogs off.
Keefer...Doxtator is certainly doing better than week 1 and even against a struggling team like Del Sol that's a ton of yards. Specially when you consider he lost his top receiver for the season. He also put up nearly 450 against your "top 10" Las Vegas the week before that -a big reason why I think Green Valley is going to tear Vegas a new one and hold them to few points.
Ray, Arbor is the second best D in town. A very good D, and if Arbor had Liberty's offensive weapons we could call them Gorman Jr.
I was close to putting Arbor at #2 this week due to Liberty's close losses and maybe Arbor would beat Liberty if they played but if we're talking about who has the best and only chance to beat Gorman it'd be Liberty not Arbor.
We will get Palo vs Gorman in the semi this year followed by Gorman vs Arbor in the Sunset final.
Much like it should be in order to earn a state title, Gorman will have to beat 3 top 10 teams in playoffs and 1 non top ten team (from north) to win state.
To the editor, what was wrong with my comment, I didn't bash any kids or make no threats it was just an opinion.
Hey Coach-Mac: I must have missed your comment, but it caught the eye of our filtering system. No worries, man. Your still good in my book!
Getting ready for Basic and Foothill in the Battle for Boulder Highway Thursday night. Then, I cross my fingers we get Palo-Gorman. I agree with tuasdad that it looks like that will be the semifinal matchup. Can't wait.
Will there be any upsets in the playoffs this year or will the powers that be handle their business? I think Div 1 will go as everyone sees it, Div 1A, man oh man, might get crazy in the first round.
Canyon Springs isn't that good. Arbor view beat canyon in a scrimmage 8 Td's- 2 Td's. Arbor manhandled Liberty, being more physical and faster. Also Arbor and Palo both run 20+ plays from the double-wing. Not seeing the how efficiently they run their multiple plays shows that credit is not given where credit is due.
Leaf... if Canyon isn't that good then beating them 8 td's to 2 td's isn't something to brag about.
Canyon IS pretty good, maybe not the best but they're good and better than most teams. That's exactly why, even though it was just a scrimmage- beating them 8 tds- 2tds is a pretty big deal by Arbor View and they deserve credit where it is due. I heard about Arbor being more physical than Liberty and I salivate at seeing them play each other although that is highly unlikely to happen.
leaflet... stop with that lie already. Arbor didnt manhandle Liberty. Ask the Aggies headcoach. Again, it was a scrimmage and nobody brags about scrimmages, BUT...Arbor View never scored once against Liberty. The Aggies did not score at all! Liberty ate up their double wing repeatedly. Liberty was way too physical for them and put 5 td's to their ZERO td's. So physical that they broke a kid's ankle in one play. Ever seen a foot turned completely in the opposite direction? Then an Arbor View cheap shot on Liberty's sideline got ugly. The Aggie's sideline cleared and came all the way across the field just to get rolled all over the field on their hands and knees. None of it is worth bragging about because this kind of stuff has no place in sports. But the day after there were tons of tweets and facebook posts from Aggie players talking a whole lot of trash about how they smashed the Patriots at their scrimmage. Liberty players were told that anyone who responded to that garbage would sit the bench at the Liberty vs Crespi game. Nobody is even bothering with that scrimmage any more but the lies are just annoying as hell!
to the guy w1536uy (jr Tauanuu. First lets get the story straight. Liberty did not score 5 td's to none in the scrimmage. The score was 2-1 liberty by the way. second liberty did not break a kids leg/foot his foot got caught in the turf and he twisted and broke his own foot nobody even touched him. Third arbor did not start the fight that ended the game it was linerty who decided they wanted to rip off the helmet of one of the arbor view players and punch him so his team came to help him out of the problem. so before you post make sure that your facts are right. Mine are because i was at the scrimmage and saw the whole thing. Yes ARBOR VIEW should be the NUMBER 2 TEAM in the state. they have beat up on everybody they have faced.
this Arbor / Liberty thing is getting like my fishing stories, each time my fish gets bigger and bigger, so do the stories about who won the scrimmage and by how much. They are both good teams. Canyon is a good team and proved it by playing good against Palo and Liberty. They lost, but played well. I'm a big homer but I can still judge teams objectively. Be fair in your comments and if you are a homer then say so pride, I do. But I also judge fairly. I wish Arbor and Liberty played this year but they dont. You Liberty and Arbor people better leave that scrimmage behind and start looking at whats in front of you. The season is not over and the playoffs are coming. The scrimmage isn't worth anything right now. And it will not help either of you in the playoffs. I will say again, Both teams are good, but stop fighting over second place and figure out a way to beat Gorman. Thats the real prize. Who is going to be the team in Nevada to beat the Gorilla. I say Gorilla because they are the 800 pound Gorilla in the room , everyone else so far has been the monkeys and chimps, they are the only silver back so far. Someone, some day has got to do it. Who will it be. Its going to take some real coaching and real playing. Who's up to the challenge...Arbor,Liberty,Palo,Canyon...who? Who on here has the solution.
I agree with Coach Earl, If Arbor and Liberty want to prove who is the best team they both need to fight their way to state. Yes, that means Arbor View will have to take down Gorman in the playoffs to get there. But I believe the aggies can do it.
as i said... this scrimmage needs to be left as it is...just a scrimmage. dont know where you were or what you were watching shawn71 but i was there too watching on the sideline. get your facts right and then keep them to yourself cuz no one cares about a scrimmage in regular season. Arbor can be number 2 that's cool...Liberty is going after the number 1 spot. Would love to see a real game again between Liberty and Arbor but little if any chance of that happening because the Aggies cant beat Gorman. Sorry bout that...
I think you were the one bringing up the arbor liberty scrimmage with all the lies of 5 tds to none. I dont think anybody can beat gorman in this town. not arbor not liberty either. So i really wished liberty and arbor did play each other i think it wouold make for a good game. as far ar the scrimmage i dont care about a scrimmage all you are doing in a scrimmage is running plays to see what works and what dont work. there is no special teams or really any penalties either not a real game. So in my opionion scrimmages are really a waste of time. lets see who is where at the end of the season. By the way liberty will not claim the number one spot from gorman you will not beat gorman i dont care how good your coaches coach or how good your players play not enough talent to beat a school that can recurit from all over the country. Its really a waste of time for any school to play them in my opionion. I remember when gorman could not win a game in this town until they were allowed to start recuriting. Schools need to stop playing them until the school district finally gets it. Make them stop recuriting or make them play a national schedule.
ok then...all this other stuff aside, since you brought it up, dont you think it would be something to beat Gorman? I actually like having Gorman play against all of us. As privileged and stacked as their program might be, they are NOT impossible to beat. Whether it's the Nevada state championship or just another regular season game, wouldnt you want to be the Nevada team that beats them in a regulation game against all odds? I know not too many folks see it that way but I think teams that really want to be the best have to beat the best. Cliche? Yes. But whether Gorman plays against public schools or not, they will continue being the best team in Nevada until someone beats them. I just dont see the reward in shooting for the number 2 spot. Gotta keep gunnin for that Nevada State Championship and the only consolation prize I would accept otherwise, if any, would be to have been the Nevada team that beat Gorman.
Does a division 1-A school have a chance to move up to the big boys? Does the worst Div 4A team have to move down? Is it going to be like Euro soccer? Worst team in the league gets replaced by the best team in the "under" division.
They are only the best team in NV because they are a private school and they dont have the same restictions that a public school has. If gorman was this good and they had the same restrictions as a public school im all for being the team to beat them. Yes no team is unbeatable but all the stars are gonna have to be in perfect aligiment to beat them. Take away all they kids that do not even live in the gorman zone and take away the kids that just moved to vegas and gorman would be just like your AV,Liberty and other schools in the valley. Ive seen the look on these kids faces when they find out they have to play gorman. Some are like hell yeah lets do this and some are like whats the point. I hope and pray a team from the valley beats gorman this year but will it happen gonna be a REAL tough road. This is my sons last year in high school football and i would love it if they were the team to take out gorman and if we play them i hope we are but we are gonna have to play and leave it all on the line against them. As a father you dont like to see dissappointment on your childs face. I just wish the school district would step up and do something for the future kids in this valley or gorman will just keep on winning the state title year end and year out which is no fun for anybody.
