  1. I hope Moapa's win puts them in top ten, well ahead of Canyon, Bonanza, Del Sol ....if they're even still ranked.

Gorman is in for a game against a very tough team. While they'll not be going up.against a faster and more athletic team like Armwood, Servite is arguably the #1 or 2 team in California after De la Salle lost this weekend. If Gorman isn't motivated and ready for 4 quarters they'll not like result. Glad you guys mentioned the holiday with no other games in town.Gorman will be packed plus Servite travels well it will be standing room only.

After Arbor Views slaughter over Legacy there should be two second place rankings and no third place. should find out more about the southeast change at state this weekend since any of the top 5 teams in the SE can't beat every single.team from the northeast except the one that matters- Vegas. I'm rooting for the southeast though.

  2. Sg1.. I think ESPN followed by UsaToday have the worst national rankings. Personally. And it would benefit us to take usatoday rankings since they've got Servite at #6 in country. Either way I gotta disagree with brewer , Gorman has a lot to lose if they don't beat Servite. It'll mean that the win against Chap (who has since fallen out of top 100) and tough game against Armwood will be written off. For Gorman to justify a top 10 ranking they'll have to convincingly beat Servite then hope Servite goes and wins CIF title. A Gorman victory and anything short of a state title.run for.Servite and Gorman finishes top 20 nationally. Which is right about where I.think they should be. Nonetheless even being mentioned in that top 100 conversation let alone top 20 or 10 is huge accomplishment regardless of people's feelings about Gorman.... hey at least they're playing a top private school this time

  3. Gorman is #7 on Rivals, #11 on Maxpreps and #15 on USA Today. Servite is #8 on USA Today. I believe Gorman will end up beating Servite by 10+ pts. Tuasdad is right in that Servite is not like Armwood. Gorman is faster, bigger and more athletic than Servite and will have the home field advantage in not having to travel. With a win over Servite, Gorman will be in the top 10 in all three polls. Whether or not we are supporters of Gorman, it will be good for the overall reputation of Southern Nevada high school football if Gorman can be in the top 10 in all three polls.

  4. That's the computer rankings not the writers poll. You see the excellent 25 rankings to the right of the national rank? That's the writers poll not computer
    Here's how they're ranked nationally:

Usa Today- Gorman 16th Servite 9th (no.1 in California)
    ESPN - Gorman 10th Servite 13th
    Scout.com - Gorman 17th. Servite 11th (#2 in California)
Freeman Computer rank (maxpreps): Gorman 39th Servite 7th (#1 California)
Rivals: Gorman 7th Servite 38th (#2 in California)
Maxpreps (writers poll): Gorman 11th Servite 23rd

  5. I am a Servite alum. I have to agree that looking at Gorman's roster, and having seen some highlights of their Armwood game, they appear to outweigh Servite on the O and D lines by and average of 25 lbs per man. I am not sure they are faster. Servite is not big but it is extremely fit and physically strong and usually out-hits and out lasts its competition.

If Servite plays like they did against De La Salle, They don't have a chance; they were out-played and out-coached against DLS. Up until that game they had beaten some of the best teams in Cal and beat MV which was ranked 1 and 2 in the USA last year much of the year is some polls.

Servite has beaten the 7 time San Diego CIF Champion Oceanside, 3 time Repeat CIF Southwest champion La Habra, both teams are ranked in top 25 in Cal, along with Bishop Amat which was ranked in top 25, and Edison which is also ranked and both were CIF playoff teams from 2010. All are top-notch teams but I don't know if they're at the level of Armwood or Gorman.

Servite is missing its top two running backs, Etiaki a bruising Junior, broken collarbone, and De Rosa due to multiple concussions. They are not the same team without these backs. They have looked lack-luster in every win except Bishop Amat.

Gorman will have no home field advantage against Servite as they are used to playing in big games in hostile environments, but it is rare that the other team has more fans than Servite even at away games, and unless you have restricted our seating, we will have as many fans as Gorman there.

I look forward to what I hope is a great and competitive game between two great programs which are really repping their states in this game.

  6. Hey credo44
If there isn't enough seats for Servite at the Fertitta Field, then get there early enough & you can probably sit it the exculsive "VIP" Fertitta, Hong, Kline, etc... Section on the 50 yard line, they normally have at least 40 seats roped off & saved for them along with the Special "VIP" Parking in the Fire Lanes' for the Cadillac Escalade Brigade. Lets Go Gorman!!! Hopefully it doesn't come down to a Field Goal in the last few seconds...???

  7. it's valet not VIP Valet coach...and that Fertitta section is hilarious. Everyone within two rows feels the need to cheer everytime a Fertitta touches the ball. I'll cheer a good play but they;ll cheer a two yard loss it's comical the sucking up that goes on in that area i can't. Frank eats it up, Lorenzo generally ignores it and actually watches the game very closely, every play.

  8. Thanks for the parking tip coach and Tuasdad.

The Pau family alone will probably need half of those seats in VIP. Unfortunately, I cannot make it, but don't be surprised at how many people do; if it's less than a thousand, it must be because we didn't get enough tickets to sell. They stopped selling them yesterday at noon technically, but I think they actually sold out Friday.

I doubt it will as close as a field goal. It's hard to believe Servite, the second ranked team in Calif, will be an underdog to a team from Nevada. But it's a different state. Ca is so much bigger in population and the talent is more evenly dipsersed, Gorman is more like a regional magnet.

In SoCal, there are about 20 teams that could give them a game. I think any team in the PAC 5, plus Centennial,St Bonny, Oaks Christian, Oceanside, could hang with them.

No, odds on paper are with Gorman, everyone says by 10 to 14 points. But paper doesn't win games. And remember, every team Servite has played so far has been bigger and had more D-1 recruits on their team; Oceanside, Bishop Amat, La Habra, and Edison are dripping with D-1 recruits to top schools like USC and UCLA. That's not why Servite wins, but we'll just have to see if Gorman is just at a different level.

So far Ca football had not fared well nationally with MV and DLS losing big in the east. Maybe we just have the talent spread more evenly aoross the state. I don't think it's because we don't have the same level of talent or coaching or good programs.

Servite will be playing some of its best D players on offense due to injuries of top offense players, and the the two way play may be a factor late in the game as it appears Gorman is healthier and therefore will be fresher as the game goes on.
We are missing our top two running backs and best safety/db

For Servite to win, it will have to stop Gorman's running game and establish a balanced run/pass attack and make a hell of a lot less mistakes and penalties than in its first 4 games. As I said before, I think its real weapons are strength, fitness, experience at skilled positions, and discipline. I hope we are not out-coached in this one too.

Go Friars, I hope it is a fun and entertaining game for the kids and the fans, (and a cleanly played one, we have two Catholic schools on display to a national audience after all!)
    Credo

  9. Credo... i picked up my tickets today and they're number 2200-2203 and i was told that Servite was given 2,500 tickets to pre sell for their fans so that would put the game almost at capacity. There is also some jewish holiday friday so public schools have no games, therefore between Gorman representing well, Servite traveling well and a handful of the public school players with teh night off who will probably come watch...it should end up being standing room only.

When we played Armwood we probably filled up the home side and maybe 1,000 on the away benches. Sounds like we wont have the luxury of spare seats on the away side this week. It will be a great crowd for a great game i look forward to it.

I look forward to watching Paua and that 6'6 receiver... both looked good against La Habra which i got a chance to watch streaming. You're right about Servite beating bigger teams with more D1 recruits. You guys are a solid program with arguably the #1 team in California now since DLS lost and I predict it could go either way. I don't think most of the Pac 5 could hang with this years Gorman though Cent, Amat and Habra could hang...as far as Oaks not this year. But i'm glad its a two year series i think we're slight favorite this year and you'll be solid favorites next year as we graduate our entire line. But we keep a lot of skill positions plus our 2nd string soph running back also has d1 offers so he'll fill Powell's hole well.

I think we're over rated nationally. I don't think we have the depth to be top ten. Two many of our top players play both ways. I think we're a top 20 nationally team in my opinion. I think Gorman needs a convincing win over Servite, plus you guys winning Pac 5 and taking the CIF title to justify top ten. A close loss/win to you guys and both of us running tables and winning state would justify top 20 finish. I'm so glad we get to play you guys all we need is to play Mater Dei and that'll be the top 3 private schools in cali we have competed against.

I think it will be a close game. I picked us to lose against Armwood, that team is clearly insanely good and definitely top 5 in country. I would love to see Gorman have a statement victory or a victory period against a program like yours but i'll feel bad for Cali since that would make 4 of your top teams MV, DLS, Oaks plus you winless in big OOS games. Nonetheless it should be exciting i'm glad we have the oppportunity to prove wether we're worthy or not against Servite.

  10. tuasdad,

Wow, then I think you will see it will be standing room only. I hope Servite at least makes a good accounting of itself, but it sounds like it will be a really great event to watch. I almost wish we could do this every year. You are making me think I should just drive out and see if I can scalp a ticket. From everything I have heard and seen over the years about Bishop Gorman it is a great school and a classy program. I think Servite is too, so how can you lose?

Looking at it more clinically, Servite has little to lose. Even a loss like MV to DBP will probably not affect its ranking of 2nd in state (and these rankings do count in the state championship pairings) Everybody expects them to lose anyway.

Gorman probably has more at stake in the sense of its national rankings. Being as clinical and objective as possible I say Gorman by 10-14 points, and maybe if Servite does everything right, they win by 6-7, but really everybody wins when two great schools play each other in front a big crowd like this. It's a chance to display in a microcosm of football, everything the schools stand for, I really am looking forward to it.
    Credo

  11. wow i see a lot of dissrespect coming out of las vagas but the team from california will be there oN friday and all the rankings and numbers don't mean nothing just play the game!!!!we don't care about what the polls say we are looking for greatness one game @ a time! i must say this california has so much talent & every team play's to win every week 26 player for a varsity game that's sad! SERVITE will win all three games frosh jv & varsity you all are thinking about last years beat down in the state championship game that was last years old news put up or shut up! 21-7 SERVITE

  12. Expal lay off the ritelan the only person who brought up the DLS game was a Servite alum go troll elsewhere

  13. Expal, i am very familiar with Southern Calfornia high school football and Servite is now definitely the top program. They have jumped traditional power Mater Dei as the top program. The matchup is basically the top Southern California program vs. the top Southern Nevada program. I believe Gorman varsity, JV and Freshmen will all end up winning in very competitive games mainly due to the home field advantage of not having to travel. If the games were played in Southern California, i believe Servite teams would have the edge.

  14. We will find out when Gorman travels to anaheim next year. I think Servite freshmen win, maybe jv too

  15. Well this game just got even more exciting as Servite became the #1 ranked team in Cal on Calhisports/ESPN, the definitive site in Cal for ranking tonight.

They jumped over DLS. So the implications and ramifications are even greater for both teams. I hope the Friars can live up to that #1 ranking.

I don't share Expals exuberant hubris about Servite, (and I'm an alum)their play has not been up to potential in the last two weeks.

I am not seeing the dissing here Expal. Servite gets a lot worse at home in The OC Register. I see people calling it as they see it and backing up why. Even if we don't like it, but they're not dissing us.

I think Servite will have to be very disciplined, very aggressive and get a few lucky breaks to win.

Though Expal is right about the lower teams, they are both undefeated and the freshman team with about 130 players, has been blowing away every opponent. I hope it lives up to its hype!

At least no matter what the outcome of this game, we won't have to endure the usual whining about public vs private, that seems to be a ubiquitous theme in HS football these days
