Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer celebrate the return of football season with an hour-long podcast diving into anything and everything regarding local high schools. They also look back on the victories by Bishop Gorman and Moapa Valley in the Sollenberger Classic and finish with week one picks.

Ray,I disagree with you about the NE. Las Vegas has great athletes, Canyon Springs has better ones. However, I think it will come down to coaching and preparation. Changing of the guard in that division. In the SE, Liberty lost a lot on defense. The key is keeping the ball out of the hands of their opponents. With that being said, if they pound the ball, like we know they can, they shouldn't have any problem winning their division.
basic deff has the best reciving core with darein spencer devonte boyd on the other side and lorenzo lucero and mystery spot with chris bibbs or antraye johnson at other slot but have 4:5 4:6 speed
sundevil,
You are mistaken about the NE. Vegas is down, and I watched Canyon scrimmage they are extremely undisciplined and poorly coached it's an embarrassment. They are loaded with talent and won't win anything.
That's what happens sometimes to teams with raw talent. They are so used to winning based on their natural gifts, they tend to be undisciplined. It's hard for the coach to get them to listen because they've been so successful doing things their own way. I think the coach will be able to instill some discipline into them and they come out on top. We'll see.
Hey Ray and Case,
Thanks for the podcast. Can you guys expound upon just how you think Moapa Valley wins the 3A State Title?
Have you addressed that somewhere already, and I missed it?
Thanks.

Hey LTG: Moapa Valley really impressed me Saturday during its Arizona game, and they are virtually guaranteed to be in the playoffs with the 3A Southern League only have three teams. They own both Virgin Valley and Boulder City. And, from what I understand, Truckee was pretty senior heavy last year.
Yes, Truckee lost 20 of 22 starters from last season.
That being said, their JV team last year scored over 550 points and only allowed 23.
I don't think they will be scoring the 45+ per game, but their defense has the "potential" to be more stingy than last season's 5.4 points per game.
Since most of their games were out of reach by half time, the reserves saw plenty of playing time in the second half, last season.
I know the players are expecting to see Moapa Valley at State, for the fourth year in a row. (Of course Lowry believes they will be at State too.)

Hey Ray, I disagree with your top 4 from the SE Region only because you have put Foothill in your Top 10 but did not mention them at least in the top 4 from the region. They at least make the number 4 spot. Silverado hasn't shown much for the past few years and I don't think the trend is changing. 1. Del Sol. 2. Liberty. 3. Basic. 4. Foothill. Thanks
There is no doubt that Gorman is a very good football team. Nobody is saying they arent. However, it should be noted that Chapparal was a 5A DII school (before realignment this yr)in AZ and thus their pedigree was earned vs DII talent. Meanwhile...if memory serves...the last two times Gorman played AZ 5A DI teams they got beat both times or maybe split. I cant remember. My point being...I wouldnt read THAT much into beating Chapparal. Are they a quality team? Yes. Are they the best AZ has to offer? No. But kudos to Gorman anyway for stepping up and taking on all comers on a national scale.
