From the school
Garehime Elementary provided parents, families and the community with regular two-way communication in a variety of ways. The parent newsletter, The Garehime Globe was sent home monthly, which included information about school news, student achievement and school activities. In addition, teachers sent home a weekly ask-me-about newsletter that included information about instructional concepts and skills that were taught. Parents were highly involved in school functions such as the ten year groundbreaking celebration (back to school day), Garehime Heights Live (microsociety simulation), California holiday extravaganza (going to town night), portfolio night, parent/teacher/student conference week, Wizard of Oz musical, and kindergarten and fifth grade celebrations. The Garehime Heights Citizens Club, of which every citizen was a member, held monthly meetings to improve the educational program at Garehime Elementary. Approximately 25 parents attended monthly meetings and approximately 115 parents participated as classroom volunteers, tutors and/or served on a variety of school committees. As a result, over 2,200 hours of volunteer time was donated by parents and community members.
