From the school
The administration and staff of Don Hayden Elementary School acknowledge that school and community collaboration is necessary to positively impact the educational experience of our students. During the 2007-2008 school year, Don Hayden Elementary School maintained open lines of communication with parents, families, and the community. At the beginning of the school year, two Open Houses were held to inform parents of school programs, expectations, and policies in their childs classroom. Teachers made frequent contact with parents through scheduling conferences and phone calls as well as written forms of communication to discuss student academic and behavioral progress. Student Agendas were utilized to provide daily home-school communication and increase student responsibility. School newsletters containing information about school news, student achievement, and school activities were sent home with students. Opportunities were available for parent involvement in school programs, such as parent volunteers, tutors, and participation in school-based decision-making committees. Monthly meetings were held by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to plan school activities.
