From the school
Parent and community communication at Parson Elementary School was encouraged and maintained as a two-way system. School newsletters, as well as classroom newsletters, were used to share school events, district curriculum, information, school data and instructional programs with the entire school community. Teachers created and maintained school progress notes which also included e-mails. Policies and procedures were routinely communicated with reminders regarding upcoming events. The administration had an open door policy and was available to discuss any issues or concerns with parents at their convenience. Teachers were available to hold conferences before and after school and during their preparation periods. The PTA met regularly as a group and with teachers and administration with a focus on the school improvement process. The PTA actively planned after-school events, raised funds and participated actively in instructional activities during the school day. The parent-to-school connection is respected and encouraged at Parson Elementary School.
