From the school
"Parents are encouraged to be partners in their childs education at Tomiyasu by volunteering in the classroom, monitoring their childs academic/social progress and participating in school-wide activities.
"We believe effective communication positively impacts our students success. As such, newsletters, flyers, the school marquee and our school Web site provide district and school-wide information in both English and Spanish.
"Annual parent-student-teacher conferences are held to discuss student achievement and state proficiency standards, and to develop academic plans. Additional conferences are scheduled as needed.
"Student progress is communicated through daily communicator folders, agenda books, progress reports, trimester report cards and assessments.
"Parent involvement is encouraged through activities such as dragon of the month assemblies, literacy nights, patriotic assemblies, storytelling festivals, spelling bees, talent shows, book fairs, art and academic fairs, living museums, and dragon days. Parent volunteers are recognized at a celebration luncheon for their many contributions.
"Parents support PTA sponsored events like the bike rodeo, holiday craft fair, fifth grade barbeque, and the school carnival."
