Fri, Sep 19, 2014 (10:11 a.m.)
The Springs Preserve Botanical Gardens will unveil its new, seasonal Butterfly Habitat to the public on September 19, with media invited to a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. Among the very firs t to experience the habitat will be local children who have received wishes from Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada. They, along with Springs Preserve employees, will release 500 butterflies as part of the festivities. Located in the southern end of the Botanical Gardens, just south of the Gardens Arboretum, the Butterfly Habitat will feature hundreds of butterflies and an array of plants. The seasonal habitat will be open each fall and spring, as temperature allows, and is anticipated to initially feature a variety of butterfly species including Mourning Cloak, Red Admiral, Painted Lady, American Lady, Monarch and Queen.
