The first Edible Book Festival was held at the UNLV Lied Library Tuesday, April 1, 2014. The International Edible Book Festival is an annual event held on April 1 to celebrate the birthday of Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, a founder of the gastronomic essay. Students were challenged to create edible creations inspired by books from the UNLV libraries collections through the integration of text, literary inspiration, or form. Some awards were determined by judges. “Rainbow Fish” by Amanda Oliver won the People’s Choice award. Other awards were awarded to: Amy Check and Winita Frederick for Best Fiction entry, Melissa Reyes for Best Non-fiction category, Jose Romo for best Food-related or Cookbook entry, and Kelly Tsadiasi for Most Creative entry.
