On New Year's Eve, it is great fun to simply rent a hotel room for that night, get tickets for the entertainment at the convention center (they have dancing and a gathering), and then whoop it up by doing a bar crawl throughout Downtown Ely til ringing in the New Year (Ely has their own traditional way of doing it on the hill and in Downtown)!!!!
You meet some of the most fun and most colorful characters during those times! Just give it a try, there is NOTHING LIKE IT, except in Eureka. =) which is yet another stop along the loneliest highway in the USA!
Peace, Star Ali Mistriel
They used too have a Bar in Austin that had one BJ table they used on weekends.
Before you get to Tonopah, (about 20 miles east) go south about 30 miles to the Test range, then just before the guard shack make a u-turn and floor it.
