I am a student at Basic High School and Mr. Cox was my choir teacher. The lives he touched can't be counted. I am here now as the person I am today because of his kindness and love for all of his students. Without his guidence I could not say that I can now stand and sing with a confidence I never knew I had. Being a teacher is one thing, but he was a friend, Counsler, conductor, and a gaurdian over his students.
Mr. Cox, I love you and miss you terribly. I can assure you that I and the others will keep the program strong and wellcome all newcomers with open arms as you did. Thank you.
RS
I had Mr.Cox as a teacher in MI and I am hear to tell you that he was one of the most amazing teachers. He cared about us and wanted only the best for his students at any expense to him. Mr. Cox was a life mentor for me when I was in high school cause high school was really a ruff time for me and he was there for me to talk to when I needed advice on life.
Mr. Cox you are and will be greatly missed.
Grad class of 2001 HHS!!!!!!!!!
I'm a student at Basic High School and Mr. cox was also my choir teacher. Mr. Cox was a Great Teacher, Guidence Counsler and person. He taught Students how to sing with confidence, and not to be scared of singing out loud. If it werent for him being my teacher this year i wouldn't have the confidence to sing in front of others like i have now. I'm sad that I've only had not even a full year as his student.
Mr.Cox you will be Missed greatly. Choir will never be the same without you.
Teach the angels how to sing.
Mr. Cox was one of the most amazing people I could have ever have had the pleasure of working with. It fills my heart with joy to see just how many people loved and cared for him as much as I did. To have touched so many lives in the short time that he had just shows what a ray of light he was in this world. No matter who he came in contact with, he always left an impression on them. For the 4 years of my life that I had him as a choir director, a mentor, and a friend in Michigan I appreciated him to no ends. I would not be the woman I am today if it was not for Matthew.
Mr. Cox, you are loved and missed by so many, I thank you with all my heart for the imprint you left on my life.
(P.S. I still miss your clever midget jokes you made about me. You were the only one that could make me laugh at them, most people don't know how to tell a joke like you did.)
Mr.Cox, my great piano teacher at Basic High School, will always be there, no matter what, eventhough it took a lot to get me to work, and I was always hurt or sick, he'll always be one to inspire me to work harder. Those flowers up in the picture, they're for you Mr.Cox, with love and care, I'll try harder, I'll learn just for you, and when I die, I'll show you how much you've inspired me to work on learning. And one day, I can play the piano with you, and listen to how well you've tought those angles, no matter what people say, I still think that you'd never do what they said in the articles. Basic High School will never be the same without you, and that's a fact. You were the one who brought the school spirit to all of us, and we know that you're already working on those angles. By the way, we all know that those angles were tone death before you bursted into those golden gates and said "What are you trying to do, scare me to life? Gosh, I just got here, please, let me teach you." Just a lifter for your death Mr.Cox. I'm sure, that somewhere up there, you're watching me as I type this for you. We will all miss you more than anything, you were like another father to me.
Love,
Your hypocondriac student,
Kaitlynn Seward.
P.S.
My friend Amy Lasagna says hi. (Yes, Lasagna is her last name, she's sitting next to me.)
In our dreams, you're there watching us.
I'm a choir mom who was in awe of Mr Cox and his ability to always bring out the best in others, including my daughter. He gave her a reason for her voice to be heard. He taught her more in the years she had with him than she learned from any of her other choir teachers over her time in school. He was able to bring out the leadership in his students and held them accountable for their actions.
He always looked inward to search himself for ways he could improve and on how he could reach more people through music. Basic's choir family grew to include kids and teachers from other area high schools, performing groups from around the country and professionals whom he brought in to inspire his kids. He was always trying to find a way to find a place for all of his stars to shine. Each and every student he taught were stars in his eyes and he was able to help them grow.
As a parent, I'm forever indebted to such a great man, teacher and friend. I know my life and the lives of my family members have all been improved upon because we knew and loved Mr Cox.
Say hello to my son and teach him to sing too. Your choir kids will make you proud and I will keep my promise.
