Joe Van Rhyn
UNLV vs. Central Michigan Tailgating on September 14, 2013. Submitted by Joe Van Rhyn.
Elaine and Joe Van Rhyn tailgating at a Rebel game. Joe always enjoyed watching football in a tavern. He and Elaine have also has been 20 year season ticket holders for the Rebels. So instead of going to the tavern, he built a tavern to bring to the games. The sides and back open up, the bar and chairs come out from the storage room behind the back bar, the lights, TV and music are turned on and "the bar is open."
The bar is called "Clem's Bar" to honor Elaine's family bar that was started in Berlin, Wisconsin by her Grandfather in 1904. Except during prohibition, when it was an ice cream shop. (wink, wink) It has been a family bar ever since. Elaine's mom & dad ran it from 1941 to 1976 and her brother has run it since then. Next year the family will celebrate 110 years in business.
Joe's bar has radio, TV, a 2 burner stove, barbeque grill, pizza oven and coffee maker. It can run off battery or 110 electric. You can always find them in the Scarlet lot cooking up some interesting tailgating food. "Go Rebels!"
