Inside this flask, Paenibacillus larvae is being grown. In order to grow what kills it, Penny Amy and Diane Yost had to first find it. They gathered 98 samples from in and around bee hives as well as cosmetic products that contain wax, and 31 of the samples tested positive. They have since been tested against 8 strains of P. larvae, and one in particular, called H1P, effectively kills them all.
