Planned stadium will be state's 'next big thing,' UNLV official says

UNLV's 60,000-seat stadium proposal will feature a 100-yard-long video screen, making it the “world's largest multimedia immersive experience,” according to developers. UNLV officials and its private partner, Majestic Realty, presented an update to Nevada's higher education leaders on Friday.

UNLV football adds four midyear JC transfers

Help is on the way for the UNLV football team in the name of four midyear junior college transfers. The school announced the signing Thursday and each player — two defensive linemen, an offensive lineman and wide receiver — will enroll at UNLV in January and compete in spring practice. They will be eligible to play in the 2013 season.

UNLV quarterback Nick Sherry will have another weapon in the passing game starting next fall. Devonte Boyd, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver from Basic High in Henderson, verbally committed to the Rebels Thursday.

Rebels sink to a new low with season-ending loss at Hawaii

This could be considered be a new low for the UNLV football team. The Rebels were limited to 203 yards Saturday against host Hawaii in the season finale, struggling from start to finish in a 48-10 defeat to extend their road losing streak to 22 straight games and finish the season with a 2-11 record.

County commission OKs land deal for proposed UNLV stadium

Clark County commissioners unanimously approved an agreement between the county and UNLV regarding some 60 acres of county property that UNLV needs to develop its mega-event center. Tuesday’s action is another step toward realizing the 60,000-seat domed stadium is built on the UNLV campus. The UNLV/Clark County deal is contingent upon UNLV gaining approval for its mega-events stadium from the university system board of regents, as well as obtaining funding for the development.

Forget the UNLV football team's 2-9 record. At the friendly confines of Sam Boyd Stadium, the Rebels are a better team. Both of the Rebels’ wins have come at home, and more importantly, they’ve had a second-half lead in five of their six home contests. Home game No. 7 is at 1 p.m. Saturday against Wyoming (3-7 overall, 2-4 Mountain West) in another game in which the Rebels expect to be competitive.
