Rebels' season opener at Arizona moved up to Friday, Aug. 29

The Rebels’ football season will begin one day earlier than scheduled with the game at Arizona moved from Saturday, Aug. 30, to Friday, Aug. 29. Kickoff will be at either 7 or 7:15 p.m., depending on the television selection.

Tim Cornett landed that job interview football players dream of. Cornett, the UNLV football program’s all-time leading rusher, has been invited to the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine Feb. 19-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the university announced today.

During his initial four recruiting classes at UNLV, football coach Bobby Hauck handed out more than 20 scholarships each year in trying to mold the Rebel program to his liking. They needed help at virtually every position, giving the coach multiple options on the recruiting trail. From building depth on the lines to improving the defense, there was no shortage of needs to be addressed. This year, it was different.

The library at Canyon Springs High in North Las Vegas was so packed with supporters on national signing day, officials had to bring in more chairs to accommodate the crowd. The ceremony, during which seven football players signed their letter of intent to different levels of college football, quickly became emotional. Coach Hunkie Cooper delivered a powerful speech that left most in tears.

Tim Hough didn’t play for a powerhouse high school football program. In fact, his Desert Pines High team competes in one of Nevada’s lower classifications. The wide receiver and defensive back wasn’t a highly sought after college recruit — UNLV was his only scholarship offer. Hough is one of about 15 players expected to sign with the Rebels Wednesday during national signing day, and his commitment falls perfectly in line with coach Bobby’s Hauck recruiting philosophy.

Two UNLV recruits will serve church missions before joining team
