UNLV’s head football coach will resign effective Monday, but he will lead Saturday’s Fremont Cannon game against visiting UNR. Bobby Hauck lasted five years at UNLV. He led the program last season to a 7-6 record and its first bowl berth in more than a decade but couldn’t consistently produce a winner. He received a contract extension after last season’s bowl appearance and had two years left on his deal. He will receive a one-time payment of $400,000, according to UNLV’s statement.

Early in the season I have two main takeaways from the Mountain West: Wyoming is going to be a lot of fun and No. 15 San Diego State looks way better than I thought they would this early in the season. Those are a couple of scary propositions for the rest of the league that includes teams that are off to good starts (Colorado State, Boise State, UNLV) without marquee performances like the Cowboys and Aztecs.
