    Johny Hendricks only interested in fighting Georges St. Pierre

    MONTREAL — Georges St. Pierre famously dropped to his knees five years ago in the octagon and begged for a shot at the welterweight title. While Johny Hendricks didn’t go quite that far at the Bell Centre after the UFC 154 co-main event Saturday night, the desperation felt the same. Hendricks’ voice nearly cracked as he repeated, “please,” four times in his request for a championship bout against St. Pierre after knocking out Martin Kampmann 46 seconds into their meeting.

    MONTREAL — Georges St. Pierre was as dominant as ever against Carlos Condit in the main event of UFC 154, fighting his way to a unanimous-decision victory in which two judges gave him all five rounds and a third awarded all but one.

    MONTREAL — This city is more than just a fight town, as Carlos Condit has repeatedly referred to it throughout the week. Condit learned Friday afternoon that Canada’s second-biggest city is a friendly fight town. Although he’s challenging the hometown star and one of the country’s most popular athletes for the undisputed UFC welterweight championship tomorrow, Condit got an unusually hospitable reaction from the fans when he took the scales to weigh-in.

    The perceived invincibility that surrounded Georges St. Pierre vanished sometime in the last 18 months. Plenty of gamblers have taken a shot against St. Pierre this weekend in his UFC 154 main event against Carlos Condit in Montreal. St. Pierre opened as around a -400 (risking $4 to win $1) favorite in the title fight, but he’s gotten bet down to as low as -300 at sports books.

    Martin Kampmann had a feeling it was good news the first time Johny Hendricks walked into the Xtreme Couture gym. Kampmann knew Hendricks as a two-time NCAA wrestling champion from Oklahoma State who was looking to further break into the mixed martial arts world. Hendricks knew Kampmann as a skilled Danish striker who had just started his UFC career.
