Dana White not amused with Forrest Griffin’s post-fight antics

    July 8, 2012

The two most important seats were empty. Dana White started the UFC 148 post-fight press conference with neither main event winner Anderson Silva nor co-main event victor Forrest Griffin sitting in front of their assigned microphones.

UFC 148 live blog: Anderson Silva ends Chael Sonnen rivalry emphatically

    July 7, 2012

The greatest fighter in the UFC has a new greatest moment after Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Anderson Silva stayed undefeated in the octagon, winning his 15th straight and notching a victory that had to feel more satisfying than any of the others to defend his middleweight championship belt. Silva defeated rival Chael Sonnen 1:55 into the second round with a TKO in the UFC 148 main event.

UFC 148 weigh-in: Anderson Silva gets physical in front of 8,000 fans

    July 6, 2012

Chael Sonnen has thrown plenty of verbal cheap shots in Anderson Silva’s direction over recent years. Silva retaliated with a physical one Friday evening at the UFC 148 weigh-in. Silva lowered his shoulder and tossed it into Sonnen’s chin when the two posed for a stare-down photo.

    July 6, 2012

The UFC Fan Expo has a way of brining out even the most reclusive of fighters. Such is the case this weekend with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who had tucked himself away for more than a month after crashing his Bentley into a pole and pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated in Binghamton, N.Y.

    UFC 148: Workout

Retirement will bring its benefits for Tito Ortiz after UFC 148

    July 6, 2012

When the questions at Thursday’s UFC 148 press conference turned personal, Tito Ortiz turned emotional. A reporter asked Ortiz about bolting on his training camp a few weeks ago when his 10-year old son Jacob fell ill with meningitis. Ortiz paused and stood up before offering a response.

  • UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, left, bumps chests with challenger Chael Sonnen as they face off after a news conference to promote their bout at UFC 148 Tuesday, July 3, 2012.

Fight Week: UFC 148 breakdown, betting odds and picks

    July 4, 2012

An overlooked aspect from the first time Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen fought is the effect the bout had on bettors. One of the worst non-decision beats imaginable in mixed martial arts came when Silva pulled off the latest stoppage in UFC history against Sonnen. The triangle choke that forced Sonnen to tap out with less than two minutes to go proved devastating to gamblers who had the challenger at +400 (risking $1 to win $4) to win.

You’re uncoordinated’: Sun reporter recounts going through UFC training gauntlet

    July 5, 2012

As UFC Vice President of Communications Caren Bell welcomed 100 media members to their first-ever workout with stars of the octagon, she gave a subtle smirk. She may claim it was a smile, but I contend it was a smirk, a quasi-malevolent expression knowing anyone in the room who’s ever given the UFC negative publicity is about to receive their payback. My fears were quickly confirmed.

  • UFC President Dana White steps in to separate UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, left, and challenger Chael Sonnen as they face off after a news conference Tuesday, July 3, 2012, to promote their bout at UFC 148.

Chael Sonnen continues to rankle Anderson Silva as UFC 148 fighters arrive

    July 3, 2012

As Chael Sonnen spit yet another insult, Anderson Silva looked down at the table below him and shook his head slowly as if to occupy himself in an attempt to ignore the words. The middleweight champion and best fighter in mixed martial arts history spent much of the UFC 148 press conference at Lagasse’s Stadium similarly. He bit his lip, fidgeted his fingers and yawned while Sonnen lived up to his standing as the king of pre-fight trash talking.

Forrest Griffin not quite ready to join Tito Ortiz in retirement after UFC 148

    June 28, 2012

Combat sports are filled with veterans who mistakenly let optimism get in the way of realism. Forrest Griffin is not one of those fighters. In fact, the 32-year old former UFC light heavyweight champion falls on the opposite end of the spectrum.

  • Nemeses: Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.

No longer holding back, Anderson Silva lashes out at Chael Sonnen with threats

    June 25, 2012

For more than two years, Chael Sonnen has belittled Anderson Silva in every possible way. Sonnen has mocked Silva’s legacy, his Brazilian heritage and his performance when the two first fought at UFC 117. After staying silent for the majority of the process, Silva may have reached his breaking point Monday morning.

    June 9, 2012

Las Vegas' next UFC card lost a championship bout Saturday night. The promotion moved UFC 148's scheduled co-main event, an interim bantamweight title fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao, back two weeks. Faber vs. Barao will now headline UFC 149 on July 21 in Calgary, Alberta.

UFC locks in date, venue for rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen

    March 26, 2012

UFC President Dana White is already referring to UFC 147 as “the biggest sporting event of the year.” While that proclamation may sound too bold, no one would argue against the event serving as the biggest of the year for the UFC.

  • Chael Sonnen, top, pounds away on Michael Bisping, bottom, at the UFC on FOX 2 card at the United Center in Chicago. Sonnen won a unanimous decision.

Chael Sonnen praises Michael Bisping, trashes Anderson Silva

    January 29, 2012

Chael Sonnen approached Michael Bisping moments after their middleweight title eliminator bout at UFC on Fox 2 ended and asked him how he thought the judges scored the contest. Bisping believed he had won by securing the first two rounds. Sonnen shockingly didn’t completely disagree and responded by saying, "You might be right." Luckily for Sonnen, the judges saw it the other way. Sonnen defeated Bisping by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) to keep his position as the top contender in the 185-pound division.
