    ANAHEIM, Calif. — The widest grin after UFC on FOX 1 belonged to the man who just found out he would fight for a championship belt, not the man who just won one. After Ben Henderson defeated Clay Guida via unanimous decision at the Honda Center, UFC President Dana White officially announced Henderson was the next challenger for lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Henderson reacted with excitement that only Junior dos Santos, who beat Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight title in the evening’s main event, could relate to.

    ANAHEIM, Calif. — A minute of action was all that came out of months of build-up for the UFC's network television debut. Junior dos Santos knocked out UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at 1:04 of the first round at the Honda Center Saturday to take the belt back to his native Brazil. Dos Santos (14-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC) caught Velasquez (9-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) with a right hand that sent him to the floor. A few strikes later and the fight was over.

    SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem are on the fans’ side when it comes to the inaugural UFC on FOX main event Saturday. Lesnar and Overeem, who held a press conference to promote their UFC 141 bout Friday before the fighters on this weekend’s card weighed in, both picked Cain Velasquez over Junior dos Santos.

    Frustration at the beginning of the year has now simmered down to satisfaction for the two best heavyweights in mixed martial arts, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. The two were supposed to fight in early 2011, but a Velasquez shoulder injury that required surgery pushed back the bout. Dos Santos was “outraged” by the delay at first and Velasquez was devastated he would have to take the longest hiatus of his career right after becoming the UFC heavyweight champion.

    Many fight fans were surprised to hear the UFC announce Nov. 12 as the date of its first event on FOX earlier today. That’s because Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to fight Juan Manuel Marquez on the same night.

UFC 158 A welterweight title fight that felt incredibly different wound up remarkably the same. Georges St. Pierre manhandled nemesis Nick Diaz with his wrestling. St. Pierre won every round on every judges' scorecard in Montreal for his sixth straight unanimous-decision victory. Diaz had preached his superiority over St. Pierre for years, but when he finally got his chance, he looked as helpless as all the other challengers to the 170-pound division's throne in the last six years. St. Pierre's consistency continued to amaze. Now it's on to Johny Hendricks, who defeated Carlos Condit in the evening's co-main event. Could he be the one to finally threaten St. Pierre?
